I recently installed the Pypes O/R h-pipe Magnaflow mufflers. At around 2200 rpm it is very drony and loud. Any suggestions to tone it down a bit other than putting the cats back on?
I have a 2003 GT Convertible and put a set of Flowmasters Original 40 series mufflers on and left the rest of the system stock and they sounded great. As soon as I hit 2000 rpm, the drone was unbearable to me. This lasted about 30 minutes and then decided to put the stock mufflers back on. I do not have the money to try different types of pipes and mufflers. Everywhere I looked about exhaust systems all said to expect drone from anything but a stock set up. I never realized how annoying drone was until I put these on.
Had a bassani off road x pipe with flowmasters. It was cool at first but got old quick. Put on mid length headers and the tone got lower which seemed to help a little bit. Then switched to a borla S type catback which changed the sound but it still screamed in my ear.
Cats, stock pipes or sound deadening are probably the only realistic options.
