Exhaust leaking, Can I plug these?

That's not a braided line, it’s a solid tube with some ribs on it. It's your EGR tube that hooks your EGR (the thing you are pointing to in pic. 1) to your passenger side header. That tube caused me more problems than I ever thought possible on my intake swap because it didn't quite fit perfectly and then cracked while trying to get it to fit. I used JB Weld to seal it back up, and it worked great. In case you don't know what that is, it's sold in most hardware stores and it kind of like epoxy, but adheres better to metal surfaces. Anyway, back to your question about how to cap it off, I wouldn't simply cap it and forget it. I believe you need to use a computer device such as a Tweecar or something similar to remove it. I have heard that unless done correctly, the simple plugging of the device can be detrimental to performance. Instead, take the tube off and buy a new one or try to seal it up if it does contain a crack. That's my .02.

You'll more than likely get a CEL. That's easy enough to test. But, you might pass emissions test. Just be sure to get the engine up to operating temp before you get it tested. Also, if you have a visual inspection they might not pass ya for not having it hooked up. Not sure on that though. I know the air pump has to be hooked up for SMOG. But, that is different system than the EGR system.

I see that now, looks like it somehow got crushed. You are most likely going to have to buy a new one unless you want to remove it, but just remember you will end up throwing a code unless you tell the computer what you are doing.

it is hard to make out what exactly your referencing in the pics, if it is your EGR valve, I just went throught that a few weeks ago. I fixed mine by using a piece of copper tubing it won't weld, but you can expand both ends to make it work with your factory fittings. It didn't trip any lights on my car, not sure how emissions would work though? Shouldn't be a problem

oh, got it! Yeah exactly what mine did, that is braided tubing, still stick by my last post get you some copper tubing from the hardware store, it's pretty cheap (plumbing lines) and cut it to fit, you may have to bend it a bit might take a while, but everything will bolt back up you just have to have that special tool to expand the ends (a flaring tool) we no crap had an actual plumber stop by the shop while we were working on it to flare the piece of pipe, hope that works for you. I was going to try and find some high temperature hose, but no luck, a hose would dry rot in no time with all the heat from the motor. hope that helps

My line did the same thing
I left the egr in place, but crimped off the line to it, i did the same thing on the other end, It never caused a CEL since the EGR thinks it is still working.

i found the egr tube on the genuine ford part site.i didnt copy the link so just type that in as the search(genuine ford parts).it was about 50 bux.Someguy80 said:
