Hello I want to buy an exhaust system for my 98 gt the current one is stock... what kit will give me the most extra HP for around 4-5 hundred bucks? I want a loud aggresive sound too what is a good kit that you suggest?

Just go to those exhaust websites with sound clips, find the combo catback, X/H pipe you like and buy it. Get the 304 stainless steel. They'll all be within the same HP range. O/R midpipes will gain afew more HP. I'd like to know what a midpipe and catback gain on the dyno. But it's not worth the money to blow on a dyno to find out. Just go for the sound you like. Just make sure your gonna like what you buy for an exhaust, that way your not throwing money down the toilet buying catback after catback and different midpipes just for a certain sound. That's a waste of real performance mods you could be spending it on instead.

I have a Bassani and it sounds awsome. I bought it bc I saw a mag article where they put a bassani c/b and x on a mach 1 and they got like 21hp over baseline.

I get alot of compliments on how my car sounds. My car was dyno'd with nothing but the bassani c/b and a CIA and put down 234hp. which I don't think is bad for only 2 mods. I don't know what a bone stock stang puts down but maybe my #s can help you figure it out.

SLP loudmouth1 for a good loud sound but if you add a x to this it will sound raspy and ****ty. I have SLP LM2 and i like them a lot. They are quiet when your sitting still but when you give it the gas it sounds awesome. I also did SLP all the way through with high-flow cats and it is awesome.

I would also suggest bassani though, they sound real good too.

Well....400-500 bucks probably rules out Bassani and Borla. You want loud deep aggressive...or loud loud loud aggressive. For the first, get a chambered like Flows or Mac or a regular Magnaflow, Borla, Bassani....for the second get straight-thru like Magnapacks, SLP Loudmouth II, Borla Stingers...etc. I have Mac...pretty loud, sounds awesome, but I also put an O/R Prochamber on at the same time so I don't know what the cat-back sounded like by itself. Link in my sig goes to a site with a vid-clip of mine if you want to listen.

Pro Chamber and Flowmasters on a 98 have the best sound hands down. As for HP, they all add some but not much.

what does "exhaust system" mean? cat back? intermediate pipe? headers?

cat back system alone will get you 1-2 hp
intermediate pipe and cat back will get you 5-7hp if you get an X-pipe. slightly less with H(but a little more torque)
headers and x and cat back will get you into double digits. 10-14hp or more depending on other mods

cat backs are $240-$380
x-pipe/h-pipe run $200-$390
headers run $200-$800

those are all $'s just for parts not including labor.

most "good" exhaust combos (cat back & x-pipe) cost $500-$900. price on the intermediate pipe depends a lot on if you want cats or not.

Get an "X" pipe and SLP! Should run about $500-$600 w/o Cats.

I still prefer the ol' "Musclecar Sound" of "H" pipe w/Flowmasters. Sounds SICK as hell off a pair of LT's on a Cobra!

You gained about 5HP if your car is a 5 speed.

You say you want it loud, but be careful what you ask for. I have Flowtech LT's, O/R X-Pipe and SLP LoudMouth 1's. When I had my stock manifolds and a pro-chamber is was pretty loud. But when I went to LT's and the X-Pipe it is so damn loud I try not to floor it around the cemeteries in my area because it will wake the dead! I'm having some Hooker Aerochambers welded in tomorrow. I was kind of worried that they would restrict my flow, but after getting them out of the box I saw I had nothing to worry about..yes that is carpet you see...I went to www.mustangexhaust.com to see how they would sound before I got them. Sounded pretty good to me...

Bassani and slp are my favorites. Both mid pipes will get u about 10-12 rwhp and are priced evenly.

X pipe should come first. Catted or not. You now have 6 cats on that car! See my sig for what I selected.

PI swap with your 500 bucks and make more than any exhaust on that "mouse in a wheel" motor. then upgrade. your going to spend a mint to get nothing otherwise.
