wanting to know what is the best muffler to go with 2001 mustang gt(100% stock). looking for a nice sound, but is everyday driver, and don't want to get headaches. Also, anyone know if 2754017 all four corners will fit with no problems? And can I use my stock 17x8 rims? Thanks

There is no best exhaust note. Go listen to some clips. The best note is the one you like most. I think my Stang has the best note but others may disagree.

Although, if you don't want something "obnoxious" sounding, stay away from off road H/X pipes, as they will be much louder than catted midpipes.

Visit that site as recommended...

The 275/40R17 will fit on the car, have been running them on the front with stock 8" rims on a 01 Cobra. However, the industry standard says 9 " rim is minimun that should be used with the 275. I have run three road races with no problems either in performance or looks.

Seriously though, there's a vid clip in the link in my sig. Sounds pretty nice to my ears. When the car first starts up in that vid....it hesitates a little....not sure why, but gives ya an idea of what it would sound like with some Stage II cams prolly.

Dont get flowmaster 40"s or you will also need some advil, they make a
irratating drone when cruising at 2000 rpm or 70 mph. If you only do
in town type driving they are fine. On 17x8" wheels you should try some
255/45"s all around. I have them on 17x9's because I like the flat to the rim
look, on the 8" they will bulge out a bit, but not too much.

I think the trend seems to be flowmaster 40 series, I just order a pair off partshopper.com and will get them welded on this weekend, all 3 of my stangs have had these, the otehr 2 with o/r h-pipes so it was loud as crap but still sexy sounding, 40s with stock cat h-pipe sound is yet to be determined this weekend. P.S The drone is my favorite rpm range. Depends on if you like ppl to hear you driving at hwy speeds or not

I have a MagnaPack Catback (with 3-1/2" tips) I bought from here at an incredible price. I still have my stock "H"-pipe with cats... my note is perfect for a non-wanting-to-get-too-noticed-by-the-cops sound BUT still sounds like a muscle car, and other drivers do notice it. It's much better than stock. And it sets off closed parking garage car alarms... V-8 for sure. And it is beefier at idle and much meatier at accelleration... Goal for 2007 is to put on a non-catted "H"-pipe and maybe some better headers... We'll see.

Don't know about the tires or wheels but my Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 245-45-YR17 are the best I've bought so far and they kick ass on wet roads. I've never experienced a better tire on wet roads as well as dry roads. These tires kick ass but they are expensive. I can do 85mph on a wet semi-narrow twisty highway at (average) 65,000 ft altitude and these puppies grab that mountain freeway.

if you keep the stock midepipe choose a muffler on the louders side or you will barely notice a difference.

I would run borla stinger If I was keeping the stock midpipe.

like others have said, sound is subjective. cars sound different in person than online so if possible, chase down fellow stangers with a nice sound and badger them about their setup.

275 will fit but is for a 9" rim. the contact patch won't be the best, and the sides buldge. ill share pics when I get home.
