I just bought an 04 Mustang GT the other day. I am a little confused on what exhaust performs and sounds the best on this car. I have heard Borla, Flowmaster, MAC, and Magnapacks are all good companies to consider in making this purchase. Does anybody have a personal opinion on which exhaust sounds the best as well as performs the best on the GT? Feel free to post up your current setup and express your feelings on how you like or dislike your exhaust.

I have an SLP Catback on an '00 GT. It sounds really great if you like the old muscle car sound. SLP is relatively new to the Mustang world, but you will have a hard time finding anyone to say anything bad about it. The quality is first rate and you can buy it for about $350.

Bassani makes probably the best exhausts for the Mustang, but the most costly. If you want to sound like most every other mustang out there, go with the Flows.

Do a google search on mustang exhausts sound clips. There are web sites devoted to these, but nothing beats hearing them in person. Try to find a club in your area or go to a show and ask guys if you can hear their cars. just be sure to keep in mind what they have. Headers and mid pipes make a big difference too.

I agree that you should try to get together with some Mustang folks in your area and listen to their cars. Sounds clips are okay, but it's really hard to hear everything on an mp3.

It's also really personal preference, some guys go for the "NASCAR" sound w/ a little rasp and others like the deep drone of the flows. Myself, I have a Bassani catted x w/ flows welded in - of course my cams don't hurt the sound either...

(sorry to get off the subject) How do you like your cams? I just started gathering info on doing them. What would I expect to pay installed? or did you do yours?

Thanks for all of the quick replies. Does anyone have or heard a Borla system with a MAC Pro Chamber?? I know Borla is more expensive but I am just curious if it really is worth all of the extra cash.

I love them - now if I'd ever get my damn chip back... lol - the original tune was pretty fat (in the 11.9:1 range) so we're going to take out a little fuel and add a bit of timing. I didn't do the install because I had the heads and cams swapped at the same time - it was just about $1,000 for the heads and cams, but they did a good job. There's a clip on the "mods" page of my website if you want to hear them. http://home.comcast.net/~j.roanhouse/index.htm

Wow! The car looks really nice. I have a black '00 GT Vert with '01 hood and side scoops and the Mach 1 grill delete and chin spolier. You car looks a lot like mine.

$1000 buck does not sound too bad for heads, cams, and installation either. Car sounds nice! What type of hp did you gain with heads and cams? What would you expect to gain with just the cams?

Well, there's more in it but it picked up 30 rwhp (from about 10 @ 3500 RPM - 30 @ 5800 - there's a lot more area under the curve overall. Also, it had a "fat" tune in it, so there's more buried in there (working on that). We're leaning it out to around 13:1, and adding 2 more degrees of total timing to see how it responds.

As far as the install, $1000 isn't too bad, considering the time and effort they put into the car - I bet they had 15 hours into the swap, so I made out pretty good.

I had Borla catback on my 97 V6. I LOVED it!!! Best sound outta a V6 i have ever heard. Quality was excellent as well. I've heard it on GTs as well, and it is sick. THe Borla Stinger system sounds amazing!! I would love to have it on my GT now, but i cannont afford it. Plus, i like the classic muscle car sound i have now
