Exhaust pipe diameter

I wanted to go 3 inch from the mufflers back but it wouldnt fit, so I'm going 2 1/2 all the way with 8" long 3" tips.. I hope it wakes up the exhuast some.... not to hijack the thread but his question was answered, so do you think 250 bucks or so is worth the pipes and labor? Will it wake up the sound a bit more?

I have 3.5 inch chrome dual exhaust tips

yeah i know the size of the tips don't matter when it comes to performance, but that's not the reason why i posted it. it's all cosmetics. 3.5 inch tips look better to me than the stock 2.5 or 2.25 inch tips, whichever one the Ford one is.

I recommend going with 18" long tips. I got 12" long ones and you can see where the pipes go from 2.5" to 3". With 18" long tips, the transition will be hidden, giving you a cleaner look.

So now I just need to find a decent place to get the mufflers welded on. I called the place that put the Flowmaster on my T/A and they wanted $50 a muffler. That seemed just a tad bit high to me.

$50 a muffler actually sounds good to me. I paid $240 for 2 flowmaster 40's with welding it to my current H-pipe. Then I had to pay $80 for my 3.5 inch tips with welding.

320 bucks!! You could have pretty much got an entire cat back with mandrel bent pipes for that

please some one answer me for the wake up?

If the 2.5s at 250 is reasonable, I'll just get a 3" cat back and lose my flow 40s :(

Oh and my flow 40's were 120 installed, then again I used the whole "well I just go back from the middle east schpeel"

unless your pushing some serious power 3" is a waste and will prolly cost you a little power.

I just wanted 3" from the mufflers back, pressure isnt as important after the flows right? As long as they creat enough back pressure... its the same theory as dumps... I mean less distance for the air to travel sure, but if the muffler creates the needed back pressure then all gas after the muffler is just dead energy?
