I am sick of the droney sound w/ rattles that come from it. I have rattles I can't fix, and they only occur in the drone range. So, that really leaves me no choice but to go back to a quieter exhuast, which isn't really a problem for me. I think a stock mustang GT sounds pretty good anyway. I know a lot of you will think I'm crazy, but oh well. Maybe I am!

Anyway, what I'm wondering is how loud three combinations I have in mind will be. I need some input as to what you all think about them. I'm looking for the quieter one of these 3, with more rasp, less drone.

1: Stock exhaust sytem, 2.25 inch, with a catted x-pipe. (by the way - are the stock mufflers made by Dynoflow? Or is it Dynomax? )
2: FRPP 2.5 inch catback with a catted x-pipe.
3: Magnaflows (not packs) with catted x-pipe.

I had magnaflows before, but switched out to the MAC for more volume. Now I feel stupid, because after 4.10s, my RPMs are higher and more in the drone range at all times.
I'm thinking stock mufflers with all brand new pipes custom-built from my exhaust man, with an x-pipe. I am wanting a raspy, racey sound, not the classic muscle car sound. I want quiet for daily driving, and raspy roar when I step on it.

What combo would you guys pick for what I'm lookin' for? 1, 2 or 3?
Thanks!

I have the magnaflow cb with catted h and 4.10 gears. I have an auto but at 65 mph it is past the drone. For a more raspy (nascar) sound I would go with the catted x and magnaflow cb, I had that combo on my 03 cobra and it sounded nice. I think the raspiest cb is the borla stingers, but I think they would be too loud for you !!!

1 2 or 3

So what do you guys think? Choice 1, 2 or 3?

I bought the Mustang Tuning catted X. I almost bought the Magnaflow from partshopper with that $130 off, but I just can't afford that at this point. I hate not helping out partshopper though. I am happy I'll be getting my x pipe finally!

i have UPR x-pipe and 2-chamber flows.. pretty raspity but way to loud for you i think. i had to mention my new x-pipe from UPR becouse i love it. but for you i think youll be happy with number 1. it should be pretty quite if not close to stock sound. before i changed my stock h-pipe i had only my flows and that would probably be closer to what your looking for. no rasp though but very deep sound. easy to keep quite around P.I.G's

Cool. Thanks for the response man. I am thinking about that route seriously.

Congratulations on your UPR pipe!

I used to have magnaflow mufflers welded in. I kick myself for getting rid of those. I should have kept them and then tried the catted X. I think that would've been a winner. I'm a little skeptical about the MAC system I currently have with the X. I have heard people say they do not like chambered mufflers with an x pipe - they don't like the sound.

The stock mufflers will be what goes on if I don't like the MAC with the x. I'm thinking the MAC is going to be much louder with the catted X, and if that's the case, it probably will not be what I am looking for. The reason I would be going stock is because the shop doing the work for me has some stocks off of an '02 there already. They would work me a great deal on those I think.

To tell you the truth, the MAC sounds great. I am mainly just sick of the rattles. The exhaust drone makes my car buzz all over. I'd rather it be a sleeper with the exhaust note than for it to be awesome sounding on the outside, yet buzz me to death on the inside.

More "opnions" guys! (See sig for that one ) Thanks for the help!

BTW, who makes the stock Ford muffler, and the FRPP catback mufflers? Borla or Dynoflow? (is it dynoflow or dynamax, or dynomax? )

Who makes stock mufflers?

I think that would be a bit loud?

I was thinking more of a quiet tone with a raspy racecar sound when I step on it.

The ultimate here is no drone inside the car! Will stock mufflers with a Mustang Tuning catted X give me this?

And who makes the stock mufflers?

Rattle is now 10 times worse after looking for it.

OK. I got the Mustang Tuning catted X ordered. Now, when it gets here, I'll slap it on with the MAC system I have and give it a listen. I'm sure it will be way too loud, and probably rattle the car absolutely to death.

I took a lot of stuff in the back apart today looking for the rattle. I pulled up the carpet around the rear speakers. Could be the grey plugs sitting in the frame there.

I took my spoiler off to see how the car looks without it. It is really scratched up under the spoiler. No simple hole plugging for me! I'm going to have to have the decklid redone if I go that route.

After putting the spoiler back on, and putting everything else back and cinching it all up real tight, guess what?

My car buzzes 10 times worse now than it did before at the drone level. I am at a complete loss as to what it could be.

So it is looking like stock mufflers with the new catted X are going to be the way I'm going to have to go. That sucks, because I like the sound of the MAC. I don't want to pay $400 for dynomat to make the inside quiet either. That is just too much for something that won't actually help my car.

So, how loud are stock mufflers with a catted X pipe? Around stock volume, or what?
