I have a Bullitt with a 2.5" catback and Spintech Sportsmans welded in. Stock H-pipe without the back two cats. All else is stock. WHy do I get this annoying popping sound when I let off the gas and idle down? It scares little kids when I have my foot in it, then I let off and it's like I'm in a different car?

WTF?...over

Thanks nightlife...Yep I have a Magnaflow catback but put Spintechs in thinking the slight baffling in the Spintechs would diminish the popping. It didn't. I don't regret the Spintechs though.

MY stock mid-pipe has been modified slightly...the back two cats are hollowed out. So you think the offroad pipes will stop the popping? X or H-pipe? I kind of like the x-pipe angry sound.

The cause of the sound is unburnt fuel lighting off in the exhaust pipe. As was said before, it is normal with after-market exhaust. Unless it is REALLY loud.

Thanks Indy...I just wish I though. It is a low rumbly pop though.

Well maybe my exhaust doesn't sound bad to other folks then either.

an off road pipe will only make the popping more prevalent. I've got an OR/X (mac) with magnaflow cat back and love the sound of it.

Check for exhaust leaks, a leak upstream can give a little extra popping out of the back....

Mine does that too. It's normal don't worry about it. I just let the car idle to a stop and it's quiet.

yea unburned fuel can cause that. i would imagine if your running rich then that would cause popping sounds.....but i did read a post on MD that lean conditions cause backfiring.. anywhoo look into that as well if it is a serious popping or backfiring noise
