Well i've been debating on which exhaust to get for Christmas, and to help my choice i went down to my mechanic, and talked to him, he can do exhaust too. He got some prices for me, they sound extremely high, but you guys can be the judge. I didnt tell him exactly what i wanted, he was busy, but tomorrow i'm going to give him a list of things to price, would this be a good idea to get accurate pricings?

Flowmaster Cat-back - $405.25 (shipped) Labor - $40.00
Flowmaster Stainless Steel Catback- $558.12 (shipped) Labor - $40.00

I also thought about just putting tips and mufflers on my stock pipes:

Stainless Steel 3" tips - $57.90 (pair)
Flowmaster Muffler - $145.90 (pair) Labor (mufflers & tips) $40.00

I'd like to go with MAC Cat-Back, and MAC off-road H, but he wont do anything illegal. My cousin is best friends with a guy who has an exhaust shop, who i will also give a list of things i want, and he will do anything i want, illegal or legal.

NOT AT ALL

$320 for Am Thunder flow- stainless TIPS

sounds like he's getting about $200 in labor off those prices... my amer thunder STAINLESS catback was like ~300 from summit i think...

This is what i realized I should have done after i put the catback on.
1) 3" ractive tips ~$40 (make sure they're the right ones)
2) buy mufflers and use the stock piping

... but i didn't think of that

I think thats what i'll do, to save me some money, just put mufflers in, and 3" tips. I dont think the mandrel bent piping will make that much of a difference.

anyways, mandrel piping might do something a little ways down the road, like if you got a full exhaust setup... i was thinking, that it might be a good idea, since the flowmaster piping isn't stainless anyways- just the tips are... to buy the mandrel piping in the jegs catalog and have somebody weld it in there, it would be way cheaper than buying the catback... i think

If your going with a cat back system and mid pipe, you don't need an exhaust shop to install it. I'm really green in working on cars, and I bolted up my Flowmasters no problem.

So get what you want and bolt em up. I also paid much less than the prices you mentioned - orderd from Jegs.

I got my Mac o/r h from texasmustang.com I think it was less than $130 shipped.

You can get a MAC off-road H in the regular aluminized piping for $109 from speedconcepts.net

just go to ur local muffler shop have them cut out the converters and install some flowmaster 40's with some big ass 3 inch stainless tips....got all of mine done with aluminized pipe and only cost 300 bucks.. will have pics and video up soon...

thats what i want to do, except i want some mac flowpaths.

Buy the Mac cat back and install it yourself. Just bolts right up no reason to weld anything. Just have to jack up the car so you have clearance to get them over the axel.

Do you mean that the Mac o/r h pipe is 125 shipped? If so, coule you provide a link since I couldnt find it.

how much of a difference would it be to just cut and paste on my exhaust, than having the mandrel bent cat-back and stuff?

I got a 2 1/2" mandrel bent O/R X pipe, two flowmaster 40 series, and stainless tailpipes, from Pypes Performance for less than $300 of ebay. I beleive they advertise on stangnet. Realy good guys to deal with.
