Exhaust question?

I took my car to a shop today and I found out my cats are all clogged and need to be replaced. The guy said he would just put 2(instead of 4) high flow cats in there. I already have Flowmasters but not sure what I should do. It needs to be done, but I am not sure what I should do. Use 2 or 4 cats? Is there a place to buy high flow cats that arent really expensive but work good? What will eliminating 2 cats do to the oxygen sensor situation? Should I still have 4, or cut them to 2 also? Does the 95 GT have a stock H-Pipe? There is one on there and I am wondering if I should replace that too? Everything seems to be in good shape other than the cats. What would you do if you were in my situation, wanted something good for performance but a little short on cash for the time being?

1.) Do you have emissions testing.

2.) Do you have "a hook-up"?

(only answer question #2 if you answered "yes" to question #1. If question #1 is a "no" , then go off road. If #1 is a "yes", and #2 is a "yes" .... go with an offraod pipe.)

Should I just get rid of the cats all together? And what will that do to my o2 sensors? I do not have emissions testing...and if I get an offroad h pipe can i install that myself? What brand of h pipe is good?

I think you need to do some research mang....I'll try to help a little:

Oxygen sensors and catalytic converters are not the same thing and do not effect each other.

Your car only has two oxygen sensors.

Your car comes stock with four catalytic converters and two oxygen sensors, all housed in your stock H-pipe, also reffered to as a "mid-pipe".

Many aftermarket H-pipes are available. Most should accomodate your stock oxygen sensors. These H-pipes, as your stock one does also, have the catalytic converters built into them if so equipped.

Aftermarket H-pipes come in two forms- emissions legal H-pipes, which generally have 2 high flow catalytic converters, and off-road, which have no catalytic converters.

If you can, get a pipe with no catalytic converters- this will free up horsepower. If you have to (for emissions reasons), get a pipe with two high flow catalytic converters.

There are lots of different brands. I run a BBK off-road pipe. You can install it yourself if you are relatively car/tool savvy, if not, have the shop do it.

Yeah sorry asked the question a little too quick. I went and checked it out on Google and found out the info. Thanks for answering my questions. I will try to research a little before asking a question so quickly. There are tons of places with every answer I could ever want. I guess I was being lazy. I will know better next time. Thanks. I appreciate it. I think I am going to go with MAC Offroad H-Pipe with no cats. I found out I only have two sensors and the h pipe accomodates for this. I was making it far harder than I should of. This was a simple thing to figure out. Thanks for the help again.

If I were you, I'd just get an aftermarket mid pipe. That way you can up the pipes to 2.5 inch (from the stock 2.25 pipes). And then all of your exhaust back from the headers will be new and 2.5 inch when you do that cat back you mentioned. And a new mid pipe will cost you about the same as buying cats and getting them welded in.

As far as deciding whether or not to do cats, it comes down to how loud you want your car to be. The cats muffle exhaust volume. So going with an off road mid pipe will make your car considerably louder, especially if you put some flowmasters on there. So if you want it really loud, then go no cats.

Of course off road mid pipes got their name for a reason. They are illegal on public roads in almost every state (though hardly anyone seems to get a ticket for running them).

I already have Flowmasters, I am definetly gonna order MAC Offroad H-pipe with no cats. I think that will be great. I want it to be loud. Why have a Mustang and make it be quiet?

if u have the cash, go with mac's pro-chamber..nice set up..
if ur starved for cash, get a upr o/r x pipe (which i'm running)..fitment is good and i would recommend it to anyone! just be prepared to let ur shop know to have it clamped up (since it doesn't come w. them) or else u'll have ur exhaust clunking when u go over bumps! lol
