Installing a new H Pipe today. When removing the old one, can I loosen up the clamp connecting the smog pump line to the H pipe and pull them apart (if so how have others managed to influence the two to separate, relief cut didn't work for me)? or do I need to just cut it off and find someone to weld it back to the new one?

Hack off the clamp connector by cutting the pipe on both sides. It leaves about a 2" gap, then slide some 3/4" heater hose over the two ends when ready to connect and then use hose clamps to secure it. A little WD-40 helps the hose slide on easier.

We've all tried to reused that clamp setup....just easier to use heater hose

After messing with it for a couple hours, that sounds a lot easier. Thanks for the help. (plus UPS guy just showed up with the new H Pipe)

They actually sell a high temp silicon hose specifically designed for this type of application. I know that my local PepBoys carries it and it holds up much better than heater hose.

+1 on the silicone hose. That close to the exhaust and before the check valve, it might get a lot of heat. Ebay has listings by the foot too. My take off replacement parts came with a chunk of the silicone hose that cleaned up like new.

Simpler plan: drill a 1/8" hole all the way through the pipe about 2" up from where the clamp was. Stick a 1/8" Allen wrench in the hole and then back a pair of vise grip pliers up against the Allen wrench. Vigorously apply the big hammer to the vise grips and you can make the pipe come loose. Use the same method to reinstall it and use some sheet metal screws to fill the holes.

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up chopping it and using some heater hose for the time being (this is my DD). I will be looking to replace the hose with silicone hose as soon as I can.
