Nobody can really argue the HP difference between long and short headers it's just that the OP made it clear he doesn't want to go that route so it's really a non-point.

I just got my 1 5/8" ceramic coated BBK longtubes and h-pipe from LMR and can't wait for the day I get to install them.

Thanks Bro, even if I don't "need" your lift I'm going to find a reason to take you up on that offer even if it's to change my oil.

Yesterday (on craigslist) I just sold a used set of 1 5/8" MAC equal length headers for $50, a 2.5" offroad Bassani X pipe w/ flowmaster 40's for $100 and not too long ago a 2.5" BBK h-pipe with cats for $200. This weekend i'm basically giving a stock long block away with a set of 1 5/8" JBA unequal shorties for free (the guy has to yank motor himself and hand me the trans, clutch and flex plate). He will do this in my garage.

The good deals are out there and I'm one to give them. My advice is upgrade to 1 5/8 unequal length shorty headers, 2.5" h/x pipe. Don't cut yourself short on this and search for the good deals.

Why won't you put long tubes on it.

A lotta hastle isn't it? Both install and living with em? Then there's the whole emissions stuff. It seems like the choice is either long tubes for sum gain or shorties for one or none hp gained.

Shorty's will provide great gains with your car.

On a stocker, with no bolt ons...no, shorty's are kind of a waste. But with your blowner and ported heads and other bolt ons, a set of shorty's and O/R or high flow catted mid pipe will add some noticeable power.

Yes, long tubes will add more still, but they're a pain to install, reduce your ground clearance, will get you into trouble with the smog police and are generally twice the price.

If you would have to choose between one or the other would you go with headers and keep my bastardized h-pipe? Or keep stock headers and get a 2.5" h? Will a 2.5 mid bolt up to the 2.25 factory stuff? Would it even be worth doing one w/out the other? Also I need/want cats.

Quite honestly.....I wouldn't choose between either of them. I'd keep saving and scrounging until I could afford both at once.

You could probably get a nice set of shorty's and catted mid pipe for around $250. If that's too big of a stretch for you, maybe you should rethink the mod game. It get's spendy.....and if a couple hundred bucks is gonna sting that much right now, what are you going to do when you run into real problems?

No offence, but in my opinion, if you don't have at least a $500-$1,000 cushion set aside for a rainy day/moments notice type of purchase with one of these old hot rods, you probably shouldn't be messing with one. They've been known to bleed a person dry.

To answer your question though....yes, a 2 1/2" mid-pipe will bolt up to a set of stock headers and visa versa. I don't think you're going to be overly impressed with the results of just doing one, or the other though.

As far as the money goes I'm just trying to spend wisely. At this point in time I don't really want or need to spend $1000 to shave a .001 of a second off of the 1/4 mile that I might go down once (actually more than likely it'll be the 1/8). I have a weekend warrior 13 and some odd second (I hope) street car, whether its 13.5 or 13.6 isn't going to make much of a difference to me. With that being said will I be overly impressed with changing out both or should I spend my $1000 on uhpolstery? As far as sound goes it's right on the money as is.

My .02 is spend the 1000$ where you will enjoy it the most. Me...it would be power based. Someone else...interior?,wheels?,stereo?, whatever that individual thinks he's going to need/enjoy. I would drop 500$ on exhaust and save the extra 500 for other things it's going to need/want

I'd like more power but after the interior is done it'd be a "finished" car.

It's not going to cost even close to $1,000 for shorty headers and an h-pipe. Are you not a do it yourself guy? It's not that difficult to install headers and an h-pipe

Also man I guess it's like this: I'd like more power who wouldn't but my theory on bolt-on parts is this, if you can out run em in a street type situation before the bolt on you're prob not gonna w it. So while I like power bolt-ons never seem to scratch an itch

Maybe I'm missing something but why do you need headers for an sn95 w/ EGR tube?

I'm working on a 95. I no longer have the 90 as my name suggests.

That's what I'm saying...for me I like knocking .10s off. They add up. For you...sounds like the interior is what I'd do. My car isn't perfect cosmetically (no where near) but it's nice enough for me. It sees less than 1000 miles a year since I've owned it. I take a cruise about every weekend and occasionally drag race at the strip a few times a year. I usually just help my friends with their much faster rides

Why do people assume long tubes mess with emissions? My car passes with long tubes, a cut down stock H pipe (precats cut off), and the smog pump in place. Passes first shot with no other work done. My ground clearance has never been an issue and I've never had problems with my starter either... Unless a 95 is much different in this aspect.
