Hey, first time poster here.

I just bought a 2000 performance red v6 with 38k miles on it for $5900. There is minor front bumper, grille and header panel damage, but nothing that will cost more than $250 to fix. Not bad for a first car (and i worked for it, didnt have it handed to me by my parents heh), sure beats the hell outta my mom's hyundai sonata that i had to drive before.

After repairing the damage done to the front, I am planning on adding a dual exhaust system, and then a cold air intake. After doing some searching on this site and some others, ive got a general idea of which systems are good, but im not sure of which fit my needs.

There is one catching point, though. I live in a town house complex that has regulations against loud exhaust systems on cars; they require you to sign an agreement saying that you do not have one or have one and will get it removed. I find it real annoying, and this brings me to my question.

Im currently looking for an exhaust/ muffler setup that sounds significantly louder than the stock V6 single exhaust, but i cannot make it too loud or else the townhouse complex will impose fines. Id like something with a low pitched, yet reasonably loud rumble. Basically i want my presence to be heard on the road when i pull up past someone. Something along the lines ofthis. It says it is a flowmaster, but it doesnt say which type of muffler it is.

Anyone know of any cat back exhaust/ muffler setups that sound similar to this?

edit: im also aware that exhaust questions are kind of frowned upon here, sorry if this is basic, but im not really aware of anywhere else to get the info from heh

Ok. First of all, if you are just going with a catback system, it isn't going to be very loud. It's louder than stock but not deafening. 98% of Mustangs that use Flowmasters are using the 40 series 2-chamber mufflers. However, there currently is not a catback for a V6, you'd have to buy the mufflers and have a muffler shop fabricat the rest of the exhaust. MAC currently makes a catback system called Flowpath that sounds very very similar to Flowmasters.

As for that sound clip you linked to, that car sounds like it has had a bunch of work done. It definitely has cams, so no matter what mufflers you go with, it isn't going to sound like that. Also, consider going "true dual". This means having a dual exhaust from the engine back. Most V6 dual exhaust kits use the existing Y-pipe. True dual exhaust sounds MUCH better than having a Y-pipe.

better as in louder, or a better rumble sound?

i cant make it too loud, or else i get fined everytime someone in the townhouse complex wants to report me. Most of em are old geezers with nothing to do all day, and would like nothing more than to fine me every chance they get. Its really dumb heh.

Yes, an O/R pipe is MUCH louder than a catted pipe. However, I really don't know how loud it would be on a V6, a V8 on the other hand.....

Hey CW3800,

Are the owners of the apartment complex where you live Communists? All the socialists in this country are taking all the rights away from lawful American citizens. I am sick and tired of the environmentalists and of the noise pollution advocates who want to eliminate automobiles and loud exhaust systems. This is BS! How dare these socialists tell us what to do. I think the best bet is for you is to take a full can of gasoline and empty it inside the apartment complex and then spark it up. Apartment complexes in America with these types of communist/socialist rules and owners should be burned down to the ground. Period.

That is perfect, thanks a ton.

And no, no communists in my townhouse complex. Just a bunch of old people with nothing to do all day who dont like teenagers with loud cars.
