Tonight while cruisin around with some buds we came to a light and we just did a usaual reving of our stangs. I kept pushing around 7500rpms when my boy pulls up next to me with his draw dropped saying the car was throwin flames out the exhaust. Not just a lil he said but alot. I think its ok but im just worried if this is something to be concerned about? I check the plugs the other day and its not like shes running lean or rich. Is it possible its just unburned gasoline falling out the exhaust. I wasnt to happy either because the heat from the flames actually melted the bumper a bit, no much but left a nice black stain on a white car. I wont be doin that again i tell ya.

Do you have a built 302 that can handle those RPM's? cause thats a lot of r's for a 302, even a modified one. Also what year are you?

I agree that 7500 RPMs is a lot.... My car shoots flames from time to time when I'm downshifting and revving it high (Definetly not 7500 though).. It's just unburnt gasoline in my case. Hopefully that's all yours is.

7500 hmmm, sounds like someones just dying to make a window in the side of their block...unless the heads have been heavily modded, Edelbrocks will probably start floating around 6500 or so, and to boot, the rev limiter is factory set to 6250...

i think i'm gonna throw the with this one...

Flag well flown. 7500rpm's makes me . Plust, how can you not be running ultra rich yet you get steady flames from the pipes? What's burning then? Unless you have a locomotive engine in that thing, it's gotta be running really rich.

PS: where in Central Jersey are you? I'll come check out the flames and the RPMs and drop the flag after I see it.

im only goin by the stock Tach, so if its reading wrong shoot me. The heads are heavily modded. but the block itself is stock only 55000 miles on it. And the car is a 1991. I never push it that high but she sounded like she could just keep takin more, so thats what im doing. And if ya need some proof, take a ride down to Ave. P in Newark Sat night, you can have plenty of witnesses. Roughly 200 cars and about 300 heads.

If it was running rich wouldnt the spark plugs be black and sooty? I checked them and they arent even close.

The legendary Avenue P.....tempting but spending my weekends in Newark doesn't do it for me. I'd rather stay in Central Jersey than get car jacked in Newark. Anyway, you know as well as I that the stock gauges are garbage. If you're running really rich you'd probably throw a code. You could check that out.
