anyone know if its practical, or, even possible to strip a car of its clearcoat to have an new one put on? because my cars paint is perfectly fine, the clearcoat is just burning off in places and chipping. How expensive would a job like this be? if it costs as much as a regular paint job then id just go ahead and get it repainted but i thought id ask

I know it's possible because I've done it on my harley fender. It came out great. I doubt any body shop would do the whole car.

call a body shop and ask let me know what they say

w/ swirls, are they fine scratches in the paint or the clear coat?? no matter how much prep work I do, or how many coats of Zaino or other waxes I use, i still have faint swirls that you can really only see in certain angles. if the scratches are in the clear coat, i would love to have it wet sanded and a new clear sprayed on!

yea im thinkin the next time im home im gunna give a few shops a ring...however now that i think it through further...if my clearcoat is burning through (a little circle on my roof) the paint might be damaged as well so idk what can be done with that...i might need to have it painted anyway...but i will check out a full wetsand on a stang tho

as far as swirls..id imaine theyre in the clear coat...cuz if they were in the paint...they should rust after a while and screw up the surrounding clearcoat no?
