Have a set of the explorer gt40p heads coming from a 98 explorer. My question is how much lift will these hold? Am wanting to install the trick flow stage 2 which has 540 ish int and 560 ish ex which duration no more than than 232@50 i believe

I'd take a head down to the local machine shop and have them check when the springs bind. It will only take them a minute.

stock valve springs are garbage, unuseable with anything other than the truck cam they came with.

ok so the real question i guess is actually, what do i need to do to get more lift on the heads. change the springs, raise rocker arm ratio, longer valves? Anybody know

put some trickflow springs on there(Summit sells a nice kit) and 1.7 rr's . stock valve length will be fine .

Springs are important but the real question is how much lift your pistons will take.

Make sure you check the PTV clearance with any cam over .500 lift.

agreed the stockers are crap at best, get some crane or tfs springs, I have some cranes on mine and they work flawlessly! To increase the lift you get a bigger cam, dont get all the other crap like rockers, they dont add the power like a cam will, and plus it will sound badass!! get some headers that are specific to these heads as well mac and frpp have a great set!!
