I'm in the process of building a Versailles 9-inch for my '65. Fortunately, the axle housing has the bolt pattern which allows Explorer brake assemblies to be installed, so I was thinking of using the matching master cylinder (late model Explorer/Mountaineer MC with plastic reservoir).

Has anyone here used that MC in connection with a rear disc brake upgrade? The lines connect on the "outboard side", so the installation should appear nice and neat.

The car has factory front discs fed by the original, large single reservoir master cylinder. The new disc/disc master cylinder should be simple to plumb and, until the new rear axle is ready, an adjustable proportioning valve (taking the place of the factory part) should enable me to deliver the correct line pressure to the rear drums. Later, when the rear discs go in, I should be able to simply adjust the proportioning valve to allow higher flow to the rear of the car.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried a similar setup. If I'm overlooking anything, please don't hesitate to speak up.

Thanks!

The explorer master cylinder is probably for an abs equipped vehicle. I'm not sure how much that matters, but from what I have read, the master cylinder to get is late 80's early 90's lincoln mark VII master cylinder with all wheel disc and no abs.
