I came across a upper and lower Explorer intake. I know that with heads and cam they are worth putting on. What if the upper and lower are installed on a stock motor? Is it worth it and will I feel a difference or should I just wait until I get heads and a cam and do it all at once?

I run a Cobra intake (which is pretty much the same thing as a Explorer intake) with stock heads. It definitely helps above 4000 RPMs, but nothing huge. If you don't mind spending a little time on the install it's worth doing.

These intakes can actually perform really good with aftermarket heads if you have the lower ported. Check out Tmoss's website. He has tons of info on it.

You don't say what year your stang is or its intended use.
Go to the tech/how to threads and look through there, you will find helpful info on modifications and the order of priority. Once you decide, then you can make a plan.
That intake is a good upgrade over stock, you should consider heads, the stock heads are a known limitation, so are the brakes, upgrading hp requires upgraded brakes

1988 GT. Just a weekend warrior. Nothing crazy, just trying to get it to run a little faster.

That's the correct intake, notice the egr passages in the center. I believe the 97 and later intakes have the remote egr.

Oh and I see 3 different posts about explorer intakes from you sir. Let me fixorate that

Thanks man, I suck at posting stuff sometimes. I was worried when I pulled it off the vehicle this morning at pull and pay that it was the wrong one. Funny, it was off a 98 Mountaineer. So just to be sure, that’s the intake I would want to use?

-AB is the early, more desirable intake with the internal EGR, act boss on runner 5, and upper intake with beefier mounting ears

Cool, thanks guys. I’ve learned a lot the past couple days on these things. I was at you pull and pay, saw one and just grabbed it. I figured I could always return it or sell it if it wasn’t the desirable one. Is there any thing I need to do differently when installing it versus stock?? Or is it plug and play?

The throttle body on it is larger than stock but must be modified to work on a fox.

I don’t have the throttle body, someone took that off before I got to it. What other throttle body can I use? Any aftermarket? Hopefully?

Any throttle body for a 5.0 mustang will bolt right up.
