Extended balljoints question - calling all w/ Steeda X2s or equiv.

hey all, I'm putting my C springs in this weekend but I had a question prior to doing the install. I replaced my stock ball joints with FRPP extended balljoints (same as the Steeda X2s), and they came with metal rings that I had to put above the spring. The purpose of these were to keep the front from dropping an additional 1/2". I am replacing my stock isolators w/ polyeurethane isolators when I install the C springs, and I realize these are stiffer than the cheesey rubber factory equipment.

Should I keep these metal rings installed, or should I just remove them? I don't want to drop the front too much relative to the rear, but a raked look would be great. Thanks!!

Ok, this may not help at all . . . .

To me the question is, how much do you want it to drop? If you'd like the extra drop by leaving out the rings then I'd say do it. Leaving them out will give some more drop.

I like the rake look myself but chose to drop the rear using adjustable control arms another 1/2". Even though the rocker panel rake measurement is close to a 1/2" less up front, with the front and rear wheel well gap being close to the same, the rake is hardly noticable.

So, I would think that it would take more than my 1/2" rake to make it noticable and by leaving out the rings you may get that look you want.

One note is you may have to get CC plates to get your alignment near spec by droping the front more.

ok man, thanks for the reply. I guess a better question is - do the C springs have a decent rake without modification, because if they do, then I will leave the rings in. If not, they will be pulled out. I don't want to drop the front too much, the whole point of putting these springs in is because I want a mild drop w/ the ability to align near to stock specs without CC plates (for now anyway). I also don't want to leave the rings in and then have the rear be lower than the front

Thanks man, I prefer the body style of your model Mustang a bit better than mine but overall I'm happy with what I have now.

I know I'm in that thread, for whatever reason I just can't picture the drop on my car. I really need to see it in person to be able to transfer the look to my own car. Plus, its these damn balljoints causing me a headache! If I had stockers in there, then I wouldn't have made this thread... I just don't know how the car will look with the rings in or out. I appreciate your help though!!

I did the bullett suspension with the steeda balljoints on my 97gt, I left out the metal rings and there is not very much of a noticable difference between the front and the rear.

ok cool... but doesnt the bullitt suspension kit have problems with the rear of the car sagging? I almost wonder if leaving the rings out corrected the problem for you. Well they're only about a 1/4" thick, does it make that much difference?

Never heard of the rear sagging with that setup. I know a guy that's had it on a lot longer then I have and it looks good.

ok never mind, it must just be people putting the springs on the wrong way haha. So you would say leave the rings out? The way I figure, I'm using stiffer isolators as it is, they might help reduce the effect. I duno, I suck at decision making lol

you wont notice the difference in the poly vs. rubber isolater, as far as height difference the isolaters out give u a touch more then a 1/4" more front drop.

do you mean the metal ring, or that actual isolators?
