these are the gaskets i was using, see how the front is blocked? is that right? thats how mine was.

Im pretty sure it suppose to have holes there those are coolant passages or else whats the point of having them drilled into the block is the gasket is going to block them

So your saying that Fel-pro is mislabeling all of its gaskets. I have a set about to go on and the side that says front is the one thats blocked off.

If you are looking for a car that is more reliable get
a Subaru WRX or STI.
I have never had one problem with my WRX and I have
had a million problems with my 96 GT but, I still love my
mustang and will keep it.

When I did my current sig combo, I noticed the hg's looked no different than they have since the early 60's.

The gaskets say front on em.

On one side ... makes no difference which side ... the hg is gonna look upside down
BUT
The marking of FRONT is gonna be in front.

There is no left or right hg.

You just need to be sure the marking of FRONT is on the front.

Is that how most of the rest of you see this issue

Agreed Grady, FRONT is FRONT regardless of what the coating looks like on the gasket. It can only go on one way when FRONT is actually toward the radiator.

i agree, seems like if they werent blocked they would just flow right back into the waterpump. i have heard of people ceramic filling all those holes so just the upper part of the motor cools dont know why but i just heard that.

I read a very lengthy article on the specifics of cooling sbf's several years ago.

IIRC, those small holes allow some flow but more important is ....

they are a restriction which then allows to happen what Mr. JT has brought up.

So Yeah, sounds reasonable to me based on what little info I got to go on.

You are correct sir I have a 100K mile warranty on my 04 WRX.
I have never had any problems with it.I just make sure I do my
regular maintenance and oil changes.It is my daily driver too.
I love mustangs and always will.My 96 GT is my weekend fun car
and I enjoy every minute of it!!
I was only trying to say that a Subaru will make a perfect daily driver
without problems.

The front coolant ports are supposed to be blocked. The rear ports are what cycle the coolant through the heads/lower intake. Make sure the rear ports are open on both heads.
