My 2002 5.4 F150 starting misfiring badly yesterday. I could barely get it to drive home. I ran the codes on it and it said that # 2 and 5 cylinders were misfireing. I tested the coils, injectors and plugs. all 3 were fine. the car will barely run and makes a horriable noise ...
Looking for any insight before I have to break down and pay someone to fix my car

ummm 2002 f 150s dont have plug wires who ever mentioned that

has a coil on plug design (COP)

im a ford technician .. its possible you have a shorted plug due to water intrusion .... so im assuming the dtc codes were p0302 p0305 i would like you to check the 2 plugs for water damage.. if so the boots are replaceable on the coil packs them selves for about 24.00 dollars each

also if youd like to Pm me your vin number i can vin specifically see if there are any service messages from ford engineers about your truck.....

just tring to help
mike

I ran the codes again and came up with P 0171, 0174, 0175, 1138, 1132, 1158. all codes saying that the engine is running to rich and lean.
The ticking noise is pretty bad and the engine barely runs. I am worried that I have mechanical damage.

any ideas ?

My father had the same problem on his 99 F-150 5.4 COP. Was water shorting out the coil pack.
