Factory alarm question

Hey, I bought my Stang used, but did not have the factory remote along with the keys. The previous owner put this POS aftermarket alarm in, so I don't use it all that much. Well today I was checking fluids, when I closed the hood, I then opened the drivers door (it was unlocked) and the factory alarm went off. I didn't even know it had one really. Anyway, I didn't know how to shut it off. I tried starting it, but nothing. Locked all the doors, nothing. But then unlocked with the key. That shut it off, but I don't know if the cycle just ended or what not. How would I have engaged it like I did? How would you disengage it using only the key? And is it possible to turn off the alarm permanently?

Thanks!

There are two ways to arm the alarm: use power locks to lock the door or lock the doors with the factory remote. To disarm: press the button on the remote or unlock the door with a key. You have the keyless entry system installed, so if you didn't get the remotes, just buy new ones and program them if you want. To disable the alarm altogether, you probably have to remove the keyless entry module. I found out I had it the same way...

No, the aftermarket one I have the remote for. It just doesn't unlock the doors, and the alarm is like a little beep, that wouldn't scare a bird away. When I opened the door, the factory alarm went off (horn, lights) That's what I want the remote for. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

E-bay is a good place for remotes. I have an aftermarket alarm system on mine also but have never experienced what you did. But mine unlocks/locks doors and trunk so it may be incorporated into the factory system.

Alright, I'll probably just get the remotes. Would I get that from Ford? How much? And how hard to program?

You can get the remotes for the factory system from Ford. They ran me something like $15 each, but you can call first and find out what your dealership charges. They are easy to program, but before you go to the expense, remove the trunk liner on the driver's side and verify that there is a module on the driver's side rear wheel well behind the trunk liner. If the wiring hasn't been messed with during the course of installing the aftermarket alarm you will be able to program the remotes. You will need to have all the remotes you plan to use available when you do this.

1. Turn the key to RUN.
2. Short the pins on the male connector of the keyless entry module together, when you do the door locks will respond then unshort the pins.
3. Press any key on the first remote, the door locks will again cycle.
4. Press any key on the second remote, the door locks will cycle again.
5. After programming the last remote, turn the key OFF.
6. Test the remotes. Only the ones you programmed will now work.
