Failing Smog

My girl is failing smog because of a blown piston ring and I need to get it smogged so does anyone have any recommendations where I can get it done? It needs to be a smog only station because the DMV is making me get it done at one. I live in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, CA, so anywhere near hear or within a reasonable distance. I will fix the piston ring after but I need to pass smog to get my new registration stickers from the DMposV. Thanks, keep riding - Greg

Are you failing the sniffer then and passing the visual/gas cap tests? I'm not totally familiar with California's emissions laws, but you just need to pass the sniffer, right?

There's a list of... well... cheats to get any car through emissions. What are the numbers you're putting out right now, or rather how badly are you failing? If you're just outside of the legal limits, and you're burning oil, make sure you change oil right before the sniffer test. Dirty oil will fail you believe it or not. Also make sure you have 87 in the fuel tank, and a little bit of denatured alcohol won't hurt either. Then before you get in line, make sure you drive the car around kinda hard for a minute, just get the RPM's up a bit to get the cat's nice and hot.

Now if you're failing by a considerable margin, that's another issue, but that too can be overcome.
