k my car is getting really really hot! like hitting the white line at the end.

today i got out when it hit the line and checked the fan, it wasnt on at all. i turned on the ac and the fan came on. the upper rad hose was firm and hot ( i think thats normal )

anyone got any ideas?

Do you have any codes? Is the sensor plugged in (not the ECT, the one that is on the right front corner of the lower intake, has a boot like a spark plug but it's much smaller).

Check the contacts there.

I would also be ohming out the ECT to check calibration.

When you pull codes, note if both fan speeds kick on as you begin KOEO retrieval.
If you were getting that hot, you should have gone through low and then high speed. Since high came on with the AC, the high speed relay is working.

let's see what you find - Scott's angle is that the gauge is reading inaccurately, so you werent that hot. If so, that makes it easy.

Oh, no matter what the outcome, installing a couple of manual switches is a nice idea. That gives you total control.

Good luck.

It's probably a bad ETC sensor. Our website has troubleshooting cooling system problems including fans not coming on. http://www.lasotaracing.com go to tech.
