For the past two years my fan has squeaked in some fashion or another. It used to kinda squeak when it was on the whole time. Well in the past year it doensnt squeak while it is on, is squeals when it is turned off and the fan is coming to a stop. Any ideas?
Probably the bearings going bad. Mine never made a sound when it gave up...just froze to where I couldn't even turn it. And the smell...like burnt popcorn in a microwave.
The squeak may be greasy dirt trapped in there but it will eventually wear the bearings down. If it getsw noisier I'd go ahead and replace.
