Fan stayed on?

When I got to work this morning, I shut off the car, but my fan continued to run. This is the first time in the many years I have owned the car that this has occured. The engine temp guage showed normal. I didn't have time to hang around to see if it would shut itself off or not, and I was worried something was stuck or broken, so I poped the hood and disconnected the fan just to make sure it would not run all day while i was in work.

What could be causing the fan to run after the motor is off. I know that is normal on some cars, but i never had it happen on this Mustang.

Hotter weather. The fan will stay on until it reaches a cooler temp.

Yea, the problem is with most cars, the gauge is actually a gauge, not just a useless needle. On our vehicles, whenever the temp. is within a certain range, it stays in the same position. It won't look like the vehicle is overheating by looking at the temperature gauge unless you're seriously at the overheating point.

Most electric fans have a range.. i.e. the fan will come on with the intent of bringing the coolant temp down by 20 degrees. If it fails to do so, it'll run until it receives the signal saying it's down 20 degrees. I personally live in Tucson and travel frequently between here and Phoenix, on sickly hot days (110+ ambient temp).. and I've never had it stay on when I shut down, even after idling in traffic with the a/c on, but maybe your cooling abilities are down a little bit from when the vehicle was brand new.

Same goes for the Oil Gauge.

I wish the cluster was actually functional...and gave readings instead of a .5" range of NORMAL.

Yea.. Ford really didn't think of the true stang enthusiasts when they designed that cluster. Leave it to Ford though.
