Seems to me I'm having to change my belt like twice yearly, putting mebbe 15,000 miles a year on the car. Fraying always begins at the outside edge. Mebbe I just need a better quality belt than I'm getting at the parts shop. Anyone suggest a particualr belt maker? I don't believe I have anything misaligned, just added some pulleys... but the problem pre-dates the pulley add-on.

Any advice will be appreciated!

you never know if something is bent I use a DAYCO brand belt I get from the local Federated. I hear GOODYEAR's are good too....

check the alignment of all the pullies. it is very likely that you have one pulley either laterally out of whack or cocked.

good luck.

I had a warped p/s bracket, causing the p/s pulley to be off by like 1/100th of an inch.. and it would fray the belt ever 4-5K.

That was my problem on another car, mine was so bad that the belt flew off a couple of times.

I agree.

Sounds like this might be the case. I could see 1 belt going bad and it being a faulty belt, but not more than 1.
