I picked 88, second year of the FOX so some bugs are worked out. Last year of SD so they are fast as hell stock. My heavily modded 91 is only a few tenths faster in the 1/8 then my brother-in-law's 88 coupe with only 3.73s.

Just cause I have one. lol. The last of the carb, roller motor, serpentine belt system, shorter throw stock shifter, improved tranny gears (1st gear anyway) stock Holley carb, more horse than all(up to 87) little less torque than 86,nicer steering wheel, quad shocks. The front end only same for 85&86 the suspension sway bars etc are all HD compared to earlier years. The only carbed roller cam Stang ever built, there are more but that is a start. I like all of them but 87-93 are very common but in time will change. I like mine because it lacks power options AC,less wires etc making it lighter and where I am, soon it will be exempt from emissions testing Any others can add to the reasons they are so great, feel free.

Well I for one love the 85/86 models...

85 was the last year for carbs the first year for the roller cam, made good power & had the best front end (85& 86 front end was only around 2 years).
86 was the first year for fuel injection first year for the 8.8 rear & last year for that particular front end /interior.

The whole reason I chose an 86 is b/c IMO the interior looks WAY better than the 87+ interiors, it was still fuel injection & had all the "good things" that the 87+ had. It was a little down on power b/c the 86 heads & intake
but since I was planning on modifying it anyhow what did I care.

My.02

BTW what's so wrong about the 86???

Foxes are '79-'93, you left out a ton of options in your poll. Gotta throw a bone to the four-eye guys. I love my aeronose, but I like four-eyes too. Gonna have to vote for '92 on this one.

BTW what's so wrong about the 86??? [/QUOTE]

Absolutely nothing it has better rearend (8.8) but the heads are not as good, thus the 200hp instead of 85 (210) BUT has a little more torque and the CFI is not as good as the EFI but still damn fine cars. I just like the old school carb but wish 85 had a better rear end, and since I have the 85. The only roller cam carb is one of the few reasons too, why I like 85 better. But Like I said, I respect them all. The II's are my least favorites but you gotta love those little cars with the 302's. All my faves are standard too, I would buy a standard that needs more work than an auto that needs less. But, don't get me wrong, auto's can kick butt too, I just prefer stick. I could see myself sitting pretty in a 93 Cobra too, for the same reasons as others. Did anyone see those engine pics of that sweet, sweet Cobra last night it was in a post? Sweet ride.Another thing, with the older ones you arent spending $$$$$$ as much as with newer ones, although if you got it you can dump lots into the old ones too. I mean this as paying a few grand for the car then modding as opposed to 10 grand then modding.
