Recently got an '89 5.0 vert. All 100% stock original except 3.73s.

I noticed on a long drive, the floor just under my left foot really heated up, like it was coming off the cat or the exhaust is getting super hot. Everything runs OK, not overheating, but I'm concerned the cat is messed up or something. Any ideas ?

For the most part, some heat through the floor, especially the trans tunnel is normal.

As to if your case is normal, tough to say. When your floorboard heats up, is your cat glowing?

You can also check the rubber boot around steering column through firewall. The PO of mine didn't put the lower shift boot on and the column boot was off. Talk about a hot interior.
