When assembling the motor with felpro gaskets what oil do i put on them before putting them in? There is a piece of paper that says to put oil on the gaskets prior to install for proper seal. But what kind of oil? motor oil? also should I add rtv sealer in some spots for added seal or its not neccasary? thanks

I'm not aware of putting oil on any gasket when assembling an engine.

RTV can be used on intake gaskets (around water ports lightly), oil pan, and where timing cover/oil pan/block meet. I also put some on the t-stat housing, timing cover.

A bump for you none-the-less...

i've never heard of that either....you use motor oil on the bolts b4 torqueing them, but i've never heard of on the gaskets.

head gaskets go on dry, and even valve cover gaskets can go on dry, those as he mentioned, I put a touch of silicone around the water ports, and in the corners where it meets the end pieces.

Never heard of that and I think I'm assembling my 100th motor.

It would be helpful if you told us WHICH gaskets, since there are many types you know, that Fel-Pro is stating to put oil on.

well it was a fel pro gasket kit. for the water pump to timing chain to block. There was a small piece of white paper inside that says these gaskets have to be lightly oile before assembled.. hmm

The only thing for the waterpump used for mine was a real thin coat of weatherstrip glue basically to hold the gasket in place, works fine.

1992mustanglx - You can probably throw out the instructions as far as oiling the gasket. I'm sure that it would work fine, but many (as I did) use a very thin layer spread on that gasket. Weatherstripping works fine as well.

that kit has the round oil seal for the timing chain cover in it, right?

they are referring to oiling the round oil seal before gently hammering/tapping it into the timing chain cover......
