Fender Stripes

I've seen a few pictures recently of Mustang's with 2 angled stripes over the front driver's fender.

Do these stripes have any history on Mustangs?

Are the stripes only on one side of the car?

I've been thinking of doing the left side stripes like that in white or gray.

I've seen them mostly of corvettes though.
Not sure of the history or the significance of them.
I just like the way they look.

I know Grand Sport Corvettes had them. I had them put on my MGB when it was painted in 05. I think it was so guys in the pits could tell one team car from another during racing events.

The older AC Bristol Cobras used the double ribbon stripes back in the day.
