So i got a 89 vert yesterday and am in the process of pulling the motor and such. I was wondering if these rebuild kits on summit are worth looking into? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FEM-MHP173-300&autoview=sku
That is the kit that i was looking at and i was wondering if it was any good? All this car has is a cam (don't know specs until motor is completely out) and full exhaust. Other than that it has stock internals and heads.

I guess what i am trying to say is is there some other company i should be looking at for a rebuild kit for around 600$. Another thing is this kit says 10:1 compression ratio. Does anyone have any proof that this kit actually puts you their with stock heads? And another thing is will any connecting rods work with this kit or will i need to find the ones from federal mogul?

Sorry if i have so many newbish questions but i just got into the 302 thing after working on 350's forever. Thanks

it will make 10:5 CR with a 58cc head, as your stock head is not 58cc. If you are looking for a basic rebuild, I would say go for it(assuming you know how to put together an engine and have all the tools). If you are looking for boost or a lot of nitrous I would suggest different.

I wouldnt order anything until you get the engine apart. You may be pleasantly suprised to find you dont need an overbore or new pistons. The 5.0 are known to last many many miles on the stock bore and pistons. I tore mine apart last spring with 130,000 miles on it. No ridge in the bores and almost zero wear on the pistons and bore. All I needed was rings and bearings. Just a light ball hone on the bores and it was good to go. And everything was measured, not just eyeballed. You could actually see the factory cross hatch pattern in the bores.
