FHP Called Today

Well after 7 months of testing and 3 trips to Florida, the Highway Patrol officially hired me today. I am pretty stoked!! So now the old Mustang must make the 1000+mile trip to Tallahassee for the 6 month academy. I would like to find a nice apartment for the weekends that has a closed garage available. Anyone in the area have recommendations on places to live?

Being an East Tennessean, I can't help you on the place to live. But...congrats on the new job. I just finished up my internship with the Bureau of ATF and we will be sitting down soon to get my paperwork started for future employment. Anywho, congrats again.

hey man there are plenty of places to live, i would live somewhere outside of tallahassee though, there are many towns not too far away, my cousin lives in tallahassee, and there is a bunch of stuff to do in that area.

welcome to the south, and congrats on the new job. YOu will be approx 50miles from my front door. I-10 goes straight though tallahassee, so commute is helped by that

Congrats on the new Job !

I know you enjoy driving your Mustang, but some of the unifrom guys get to drive new Z-28 Cameros to chase down the ricer's. Hope you get one for your duty vechicle.

Btw - stay out of Miami. Years ago I had a friend with FHP that patroled Miami, and they will not show you any respect down there. He transfered to Troop C in Pinellas county and enjoyed messing with the Outlaws motorcycle gang.

Congrats on the new job. You should like it down here it's pretty sunny for the most part (damn summer storms) Gainesville has a nice track and Orlando Speed World is nice as well. Law enforcement is something I’m looking into as well. Good Luck

Congratulations on the job. So what made you decide to go with Florida when you live in IL? Hell NC will not even hire you unless you have lived in the state for a certian period of time. But we also have one of the toughest Patrol Schools in the country. Good luck with it and just remember the one thing that has been drilled into me all my life by a dad that has been an officer for over 20 years. No matter what it takes you always make it home when the shift is over.

Thanks a lot guys!! I originally waited for IL when I graduated college, but there has been some major budget problems in IL and a freeze was in place. So I tried my luck in FL. I am really glad I did b/c IL sucks. I have lived here for 24 years and it is not much fun. There are a ton more people in FL and much more to do.

Haha I flew everytime I went to FL., however, I do have more than 25K on the car now, but it will not let me change my sig. Something about I have over 500 characters. Edit* I went ahead and deleted like 90% of my mods so now I can correct the mileage*

Looks like your will be driving a Z-28 after the academy. The FHP uses confiscated drug dealer cars. Hell I saw a SL500 Kompressor FHP the other day (495HP one) in West Palm Beach.

Tallahassee is a big college town with Florida State University being right in the middle. Other then that there's not much around. In fact most people call the panhandle of Florida South Alabama. When you get finished try to get into South Florida where it's happening.

More than likely he will be in Central Florida, with only 23 troopers to cover 6 counties, they are now just starting to beef up the law enforcement here finally. Just do me one huge favor, pull over the morons who do 25 in the fast lane, and make left hand turns from the right turn lane. Enjoy our time in Tallahassee.

thats awesome man! i just got home from tally and i am goin back up in 4 months i hope to see your car up there, there are alot of places up there to live but i dont know if any of the places i know of are not just for students. there are definitly alot of places to live up there and there all around 375-550, for students anyway.
