Fiberglass Front Apron How Hard to Install?

How hard is it to install the fiberglass "street style" front apron (03724) from Mustang Plus? I am trying to get better air flow into the radiator and thought about installing this item on my 68. Has anyone installed one lately?

The street style apron still takes the front bumper right?

You willhave to loosen up your headlight buckets so you can slide the lip up behind them if I remember correctly. You might have to do some blending in order to get it to have a smooth finish where it meets the lower fender. Its a pretty easy install. The R model requires notching or removing of the hood latch rod.

Yes, it is the street version so it accepts the front bumper. The salesman at Mustang Plus told me that some of their shops that install them have a difficult time installing them.

I dont know why they would. I am a novice and installed an R apron without any problems

I actually took the car apart now so i could 'redo' some things. Install is straight fwd though.

The street model doesn't have the lip like the R model does, so you don't need to loosen the buckets. The R model replaces both the front valance and the stone deflector. The street model attaches like the stock valance does. It retains the stone deflector. I had to drill the holes to mount it to the lower part of the fender and for the 2 bolts that mount to the radiator support. I also had to cut some of the opening where it meets up with the frame below the rad suuport, so mine angles down a bit.

I think I have the apron you're talking about - molded spoiler (the MP one is made by Maiers).

Fit is not the best: these cars get tweaked over the years and finding any glass that fits is tricky. Installation takes two of us, partly because it can be tricky to determine exactly where to drill when you initially install it and partly because it just doesn't fit perfect no matter what you do! I used to try to use the stock Ford bolts, but have found it's much easier with something that is just a bit longer: you can get the bolt started much easier. I also had to notch mine for the hood latch support.

Having said that, I've had mine for about 20 years now and it is still holding up strong. I like the look and the functionality. The only thing I wish it had is brake ducts, but I added those this past winter and am happy with how they turned out (at least from a functional standpoint!).

GP....What part is the 'stone' deflector? i dont think my R apron replaced anything at all....other than the metal valance.

If you use the bumper as the dividing line, the stone deflector would be visible from above the bumper, the apron (valance) below the bumper. The R model has this as 1 piece.

Mine went on with no problem. Watch the sales pitch. If they say hard it means maybe 30 minutes but they charge you for several days work.
