Fiberglass Rear Hatch for an 87

I called Bill,

He says he has some for me to look at. It's over an hour away. I'll drive up tomorrow to look.

He said an older hatch has extra bumpers to prevent the wobble that chips the paint off the quarter panels. Will the harness for that work?

Lets see.....brake lights, defroster, hatch release.....am I forgetting something? 3 sets of wires.

The bumpers are those little screw-in hexagon looking rubber things.....I run without them. Not a big deal. They go on the underside of the hatch opposite little round indentations right behind the taillights. There are two more inserts about halfway up the hatch inner lip...little triangles of rubber.

Dont forget to backpaint the hatch. Pull out all the rubber plugs on the underside and fill the hatch with paint. It's the hatch's hollow space that rusts the most. They rot from inside out.

While the hatch is off, you can lay it inside facing up and the paint wont drip out.

Wait till it dries then pump it full of tire silicone. Puts a fine layer of heavy silicone on the inside of the hatch further preventing rust. Last hatch you will ever need.

I called dwane.
He says he does not have any but supplied me with this:
CH AUTO in Jackson NJ 732-928-3713

So I called them and they have 'em and they are less than one hour away.

I'm there tomorrow!

woo-hoo!

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but that was the place I was talking about in a previous post. The guy has everything, and he's reasonably priced. Plus he lets you pull your own parts, if he doesn't already have them pulled. He usually has about 10-15 parts cars; and stacks of already pulled parts..

Have fun!! :nice:

Garystocker, did you ever get that hatch from that place in Jackson? If so, how much did it cost and what was the quality like? Is it still rust proof? My hatch is rusting out and I thought about going to a shop to get it fixed but figured it would be more worth my time and money to get a good used one. I considered the fiberglass one as well but was quickly discouraged when I read this post.
