Fiberglass smell in car...

Ok this one is for everyone who has any custom fiberglassing in their car... I just built and installed a fiberglass sub box in my spare tire well, and it stinks. I just installed it last week, but my entire interior smells like fiberglass, and in case you have never smelled fiberglass, consider yourself lucky, it downright stinks. So my question is this, is there a way to remove the smell without removing the fiberglass box? Does the smell go away eventually, or am I gonna be stuck with it for a while. Thanks for the input...

Take the box out, and let the box sit outside in the sun 2-3 days. It will bake the smell off. Also vaccuum the car, get all fiberglass dust/residue out. Then you probably will want to air out the car a few days. As long as you didn't use too low of a mixture of hardening agent, the smell will go away. My car is still in the airing out phase as well, but my box no longer stinks. If you carpet or bondo/paint it, it will make the smell go away bigtime.

The above tips are good points. It's gonna smell for a little while no matter what you do though. The best thing to do is let it air out if at all possible and get some type of air freshner to put in the car. It will help knock it down as well.

Thanks for the info, I cant take the box out because, well I just cant its pretty much in there unless I cut it in half and take it out, but I will try getting a good air freshener, and I will leave my windows down whenever I can.

i had some fiberglass speaker pods made from fiber glass... it stunk for a while but eventually went away...

its all good

If you can take the box out, spray the outside of it with primer and let it dry. It seals in the vapors. But, then it doesn't cure the same (but I'm not sure if it will affect the enclosure). Check the fabrication section of the carsound.com forums- good info on fiberglassing there.
