Well, I'm really happy, because I finally located a 77 Merc. Monarch and got the brake parts off it. They are getting pretty rare up here in rustland.

I got a proportioning valve and master cylinder off the vehicle, but the junkyard didn't let me pull the parts, so I don't know which line goes where. :(

Can anyone help, please? I'm pretty sure the proportioning valve won't help me if I plumb it backwards.

Thanks!!

Im not sure exaclty myself but the only place ive seen any kind of explanation was mustangsteve

This may be of some help

I was just about to post this question.

I have an adjustable proportioning valve with one line in and out and a distribution block that looks nothing like this. Since I have a GT, I should have what I need, but I can't figure out where to run the lines.

Here is what I have. Can you help me untangle this mess?

There is a line that runs from the back of the fruit jar master cylinder to the proportioning valve. There is a line from the proportioning valve to the rear brakes, I think. There is a line from the bottom of MS bowl to distribution block. The only two outlets from the distribution block must go to the front brakes.

I must have the pieces, but, for the life of me, I can't put them in some sort of order.

Thanks in advance!

I would expect that the single output goes to the rear brakes. From what I understand, an adjustable prop valve is used to reduce the hydraulic pressure on the rear brakes so that the fronts lock first.

So, the fronts would get full pressure from the master cylinder. The rears would get reduced by the adjustable proportioning valve.

I've never plumbed one, so maybe I shouldn't have replied. Hopefully someone who knows will see this. :D

edit: I reread your post. Yes what you're saying makes sense to me.
