Well I am ordering my combo this week when I get it all sorted out. I decided
AFR 165's
Ported cobra intake
BBK longtubes
Dr. Gas x-pipe
MAC catback
Now I have some cam and injector questions:
I can't decide if I want to go comp cams 270 or 274, crower 15511 or custom. I want the car to idle well and work with the heads on the stock shortblock.
Also I don't know which injectors to go with 24# or 30#. I have a 76mm C&L MAF.
Any suggestions opions would be great.
Thanks
Dan

your combo looks very similar to mine...If money is not an issue get a custom...from the cams that you listed it should only be a $50.00 difference if that. 24# or 30# will work...I will be using 24# on mine...those tend to have a more efficient spray pattern over the 30#...but 30# will work as well...actually the ideal injector would have been a 26# if you do the math...Good luck...

So basically a custom cam is the way to go?

Dan, go with a custom FTI or camshaft innovations.com cam. When your combo's running, call me up so I can trim your sh it up

In all seriousness, have a cam grinder grind you a nice aggressive cam to make big power. Look at what GTJake did with afr 165's, edelbrockperformer intake with ported lower and an FTI cam- 325rwhp. Just buy the whole combo from Ed if you do the FTI route.

Definatly 30lb injectors, 75mm tb, longtubes.

I do, however, think a comp 274xe will make good power if it fits. Ditch the stock afr springs too.

Mike,
I am finally doing it, lol.
I am in the process of getting everything I need together. Right now I have a FMS 65mm T/B never used. Could I use that?
Plus the cobra intake won't allow a T/B bigger than 70MM.
Also what injectors to go with using the C&L for right now?

Ditto on the custom cam, probably the most important part of the combo.

Dan, i'm speechless. After like 2 years your finally taking the plunge Too bad I ripped my car apart, I'd love to run another afr/fti combo on the street

If you have the 65mm, use it. I like bigger tb's and Ed recommended a 75mm for my 302 combo when I had it. All you would have to do is open up the inlet with a dremel.

Use the 58cc afr 165 stud mount heads.

Go with 30's. After I reset the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) my car idled good with the 76mm c&l and 30's. When I first did the 30's the car idled horrific. Now I run a pro m 80mm for 30's and I use a PMS to tune and I don't even know what an idle problem is anymore

If you go with an FTI cam, tell him you want soemthing that'll make big power, not the dime-a-dozen 300rwhp BS evenone has. Don't join them, BEAT them

Well whats big power? I want it streetable and not rev too high. Believe me I like power as much as the next guy, but I want it to be enjoyable. i am doing a lot of other things that are taking half of the money also. So its not a budget, but it does have some limits, ya know. So I will maybe call Ed on friday to talk to him and if I like what he says I'll hand over the ever so great credit card number. Ill let you know

Here is GTjakes graph. This is "big" power for stock block and under 6000 rpm power peak. http://www.mustangmods.com/data/2378/dyno1.jpg

Basically, since I had what your looking to build i'm giving you my thoughts on it. I had that typical 300rwhp combo for almost 4 years. So, what i'm trying to tell you is shoot for higher goals with NO effect on streetability. Remember, the cam is $325 no matter if you ask for a weak one or a more aggressive one. That balls in your court I asked for a real aggressive one.

Ed doesn't do credit cards, just cash or money orders. I sent him money like 3 weeks ago and my builder already has my cam and balancer I bought from Him. The valve springs and viton seals are at my house too. That was quick!

I'd go with the 30#ers...just make sure you get the new calibration tube for the C&L MAF...otherwise you'll run like crap if it thinks you have stock injectors still.

Good luck - about to take a major plunge myself.
