Man, looks like fun I hope to go up there one day and meet all you guys. I am finally getting the 12psi and water injection straight so that it will be EVEN faster. Kevin was pretty impressed when he drove it, I think anyway.

The one time Kraw rode with me he complained that it was too loud. And now he does not even show up for the Cruise Nights. Oh well. Driving Drew1287's car, I was highly impressed. And this was even before he did the pulley swap and water injection. I believe he will be in the 11s very soon.

Hey guys I too am getting the new Comp Cams, I read the article in this months 5.0 magizine. I have two friends to assist with the extra hands to hold the timing chaing tool so I dont have to pull the whole front of the engine off.

I'm ordering part #102600 XE270AH(cams $608) and #26113(springs $199).

I do have a few question I hope someone can answer for me.

1. Our 4.6 SOHC engines have hydraulic lifters right??(so no need to set valve lash like in the old 302's right???, should save a little time.

2. Can someone post a picture of the valve spring keepers, and comment on the difficulty level of getting them back in place during the valve spring swap.

I know I need the special tool to hold the timimng chain tight so I can swap cams, I will need the special valve spring compressor, and the cylinder leak down tester to keep the cylinders pressurized during the spring swap. Any other speciality tools needed?? I have air tools as well.

I am projecting 5 hours for the job, based the fact that I dont have to pull the front of the engine off.??

thoughts....

Well if you are changing the valve springs I think the job might be longer than 5 hours. Yes you will definetly need an extra set of hands. I never had to mess with the valve lash. But since you are changing the springs I believe you need to compress the adjusters in a vise before reinstalling. Me on the other hand just swapped out the cam. No adjusting of anything. The install of the springs I hear is the hardest part and requires some patience. Good luck with the install and enjoy the newfound power you will recieve.

A question about cam installs....
At any position of the crank,
certain valves will be open.
Does forcing the camshaft into position,
which implies opening certain valves, pose a difficulty?

Hey Rio,

The old cam is pulled, followers set aside, new cam bolted in and sproket attached, that way you arent fighting with followers trying to compress them as you bolt down the cam.

Once the new cam(s) are in place(spocket attached, timing verified) then you go back and fight with the followers. Out of 8 followers per side only maybe 50% should be actually hard to get back in place.

I'm still getting ready to attack my cam install, I'm trying to work out the Emissions questions first, and see what kind tune I will need.

OK...now I know I need these cams. Me and Kevin lined 'em up last night. Before, I was able to pull pretty hard because of gears. But now he walks me from the top of second on. The one run from a dig I could beat him off the line but once we got going he pulled pretty good. Looks like a really good mod to me. And it sounds badass.

P.S. I didn't appreciate you waving bye-bye to me on that last run ..l..

P.S.S. I have found the Comp cams for $539. Anybody found cheaper?

In case anyone runs into this thread and has the ticking problem after their install, check this thread: Tick after cam install Be sure to read the entire thread since there is some misinformation that gets corrected as it goes along.

I was surprised at how well they pull. It is true when I run would against Coramprat in the past he pull me big time, from the begin to the end. I never had a chance. (He is running 4.10, exhaust, pullies, and screamin demon ignition) The mod I have is the h-pipe, mufflers(sound only), and the so called MAC CAI(looks only) that has the Darkwolf mod. Without the Darkwolf mod my car will not even run because it is so rich. I am in need of a tune badly. Most of my mods are for looks. With the cams it is like a whole other car. When I raced Coramprat I would pull him(finally). And like stated earlier from top of second on, it just continue to pull. Now image if I had 4.10, PI intake, and a tune I could be having some fun. I will post a video of the car with the cams and some pictures during the week.
