So i started installing my gears myself(i know ) on sunday. Had a few things to do so i got off track and just finished them up today. I used Motive 4.10s and bearing install kit with valvoline fully syn 75w90 gear oil with Ford friction modifier. All i can say is this should have been done a long time ago they pull so much harder than the stock gears. Just now i have to get used to redline coming so fast and the speedo being off. So far i have about 100 miles on the and have ZERO whine. Feel free to ask any questions or make any comments.

Not suppose to get on them for 500 miles or you can develop a whine, so baby that thing a little longer.

Did you look into getting a Dallas Mustang Speedcal? I bought one for mine and it's VERY accurate.

Pullys and gears are going to be my first mods. Do you have any complaints at all about the gears?

I had the same problem with mine when they were finished. I got on it once and was amazed, but didn't hit full throttle till 500 after that. Now have same problem with blower but I'm not risking it this time, I waiting till its tuned to hit full throttle. I have finals so no time for car right now!

Did you have all the tools to do it properly? (press, dial indicator)

I'm looking into doing this myself.

Do you hear much "whine" with these? I've been reading some reviews and some people say its bad, others say there is very little.

Another question, ive also read mixed reviews on these gears lowering your MPG, any feedback on that?

Properly installed gears should not make any whine, and if you do get a whine you shouldn't be able to hear it over your exhaust.

Yes it will lower your MPG if you continue to drive at the same speeds.

Now that you have your 4.10's, save up for some cams. 4.10's and cams REALLY compliment eachother. My 262's and 4.10's were a match made in heaven.

I have no whine at any speeds atleat not loud enough to hear over my exhaust. As far as mpg I can't really tell I don't really have that many miles on them but if it does drop it will be very little

So how did you do it then? I've heard of people putting one bearing/part into a freezer for a few hours, and whatever it's supposed to go onto into an oven for a while.

Is it just the Motives that whine or is there a better brand? Is the whining from incorrect installation?
