draw a number one or a dot on the cap to use for refrence. start with that and go counter clockwise around the cap following the firing order

this should help out http://www.muscularmustangs.com/2005/firingorder.php

Put the #1 cylinder(front passenger side) so the piston is all the way at the top, or you can turn the motor so the balancer 10 lines up with the timing pointer but it this isnt the most accurate way. Once u get it to TDC on #1 line the rotor of the distributor to where the #1 spark plug wire is. Just follow the #1 spark plug wire to where it meeets on the top of the cap and make a mark on the distributor bowl so u can line the rotor to it, then u can fine tune the timing with a timing light.

Note:

When stabbing the dizzy, you will actually drop it in with the rotor facing #8 and it will rotate clockwise and end up when seated facing #1.

In case some get confused.
