First door ding......

Where on the body is the ding? Paintless dent repair guys are pretty good nowadays & should be able to take care of it if its not on a body line...
I've had my 09 for a year now and there is no ding anywhere. Knocking on wood every were. I don't give people a chance to ding me. I park out as far as possible and walk the extra 100 feet. I don't park next to anyone, If that's the only place, I just come back later or tomorrow. I feel sorry, but dings are preventable. And you just have to live and learn. People just don't care about your Mustang. My advise, Get it fixed and then do not park any were it can happen again. Or, Have more dings.
Yes the paintless dent repair is nuts. I watched it on my parents Vette.
They have this tool that shines lines of light across the paint, and the lines get distorted where the dent is. They go with special tools with different heads and rub the back of the panel until the lines are straight again.

Yes, venting is good, it helps you get over it. I have actually read a study that stated that using profanities helps you to overcome pain better/easier/quicker. I always preached to my kids, stay away from the Mustang, don't play by the Mustang, walk your bike when you're next to the Mustang, etc, etc, etc. Then on a winter day, pulled the truck into the garage, stepped out, my foot had slush on the bottom of it, my leg slipped forward and proceded to push the door into the Mustang. Pow, major door ding.... I was so pissed, I wanted to scream Mother F***er at the top of my lungs! But in a way it was kind of funny, all of the preaching I do with my kids and I'm the one who did the damage. Take this bit of advice and you'll save yourself a lot of worries/headaches/pains, "It's not a REAL problem, if it can be fixed with money."

That does suck, but as mentioned before, it can be mostly avoided if your careful enough, BUT it's not 100%! As long as it didn't chip or crack the paint, paintless dent repair is the way to go
Out of the three dings/dents mine had in it's first two+ years, two were definitely avoidable! The first one was when I was looking at the driver side view mirror not to run over my ramps and tools and totally forgot my dad's Miata was parked where my Stang usually sits. Thinking that there was no car there I never checked the passenger side mirror until...*bump*
That left a couple big paint chips on the bumper and put two creases in the quarter panel! The second instance wasn't my fault at all... I was sitting in the right lane on the highway in bumper to bumper traffic when I hear a loud thud on the passenger side of the car! I asked my son, in the back seat, if he heard it and he said yes, so I knew I wasn't just hearing things... I looked behind me and the car wasn't close enough to have been the one to hit me. I pulled over to the side of the road, got out and saw there were two nickel sized deep dents on the quarter panel... This was along side a stretch of woods and I suspect that kids must have thrown something and my Stang was the unfortunate victim. I saw nobody when I looked in that direction. Hopped back in the car steaming mad
So now the passenger side quarter panel is really messed up
The third was when I was traveling down the interstate and a piece of plywood was kicked up by a pickup truck in front of me (didn't come off the truck). I saw it tumbling through the air and I slowed down (couldn't move over as there was traffic to my right and to the other side was the jersey wall on a bridge), but it wasn't enough and it caught the front lip of the hood
All in all, no matter how careful you are, there are other circumstances that can arise and ruin your day and your Stang's appearance if you take it out for a drive. As mentioned before, it's not a "real" problem and money can fix it!

I have used the same PDR guy for the past 12 years (he used to work for Dent Wizard)...paintless dent repair is the way to go...they can even remove dents from a body line (a good PDR guy can do it)...check with your local dealer to see who they use and believe me they use them all the time (especially on trade-ins)...heck I had to get a few shallow dents removed from my "new" Stang...either happened at the factory or while sitting on the dealer's lot.

Here's an update: Wouldn't you know it, its on the body fold just under the left rear view mirror. Debatable whether dentless repair would do the trick. Don't know if they can get their tools under there either. It appears to me that the back door of an SUV hit it as mommie was fiddling with her junk in the back seat. I parked head in while the other vehicle was parked the other way; although you really have to go out of your way to put a ding in a place like that! It hit with such a force that the metal above the dent buckled upwards.
Annnnnnnd now for the insurance. There is $0 deductible on my comprehensive but the comprehensive is not applicable to my car. Comprehensive kicks in when there is vandalism, keying, or intentional smashing of windshields, or things of that ilk. They are considering it collision since it was hit by another car, moving or not. My collision has a $250 deductible.

Well, if they repair the ding the regular way, they will paint the entire side of the car. No matter how hard one tries, one repaired panel will never match, especially metallic. I brought this up with the adjuster.
Maybe I'll key the car all around so they can paint the whole thing. Black primer underneath sounds like it would make a pretty attractive hue. Hmmmm, I can slash the top and get them to replace it with a cloth one (doubtful because they would probably fix it just like it was before).
I'll think I'll post a pic tomorrow.

I had the black primer done under the VB and it looks really nice. At certain angles, the Alloy and VB just blend in and can't even tell my car has stripes! The exact stealthy look I was going for, but had no idea how it would look until it was finished As far as the rest of your "plan" for total repaint goes...be careful talking too much

Alloy stripes, right? Can't see them in your signature but subtlety is everything. And woah, you've had more than your share of mishaps. For WV, I was imagining silver stripes, the same shade of my pinstripe and the Saleen sticker (which aren't too visible either). I prefer it over high contrast. As for a repaint of my own, its sort of a "surprise me" sort of thing too, but not now because I'm leaving my job. Yes, in this economy the job must really be bad for one to leave.

Now IC. Good job! It sorta reminds me of the hood sticker on the 85/86 GT. I had flat gray/black on a dark gray metallic car. Man, I miss my '85.
I'm going auto body. Body shop said dent doctor not an option. It's thru one of State Farm's Select Repair Shops. They guarantee satisfaction (uh huh). It was supposedly finished Monday but the door was 'wavin at me' so I sent it back. I'm crossing my fingers.

bluecar, looks like they did a great job...though I will say that my PDR guy would have easily removed that one (especially after having seen the pic)...I' ve seen a lot worse...bottom line is that you're happy and that's all that counts.
