first gear lock out?

ok sometimes when am at a light and my car is in neutral and i go to put my car in first gear, it wont go in, it feels like there is a way there or something, but i can put it in say 3rd gear then back to first and it will go in? any ideas>"??

This is just typical T5 stuff here. Every Mustang I've ever owned was like this. As a habbit, I now put it in 5th, then back to 1st everytime. Has to do with gear alignment or something. I think everything is ok with your equipment, just the nature of the beast!

ya thats what i hear, but the trans is new and it was PERFECT when i first got it, just alil gear rattle

Where you able to see the condition of the fluid at all? Fluid level? and your FWA should be set at zero lash (no slack)

the fluid has been changed twice the first time it looked fine, it was cherry colored, the 2nd time i didnt change it myself so idn'

so zero lash means no free play?? my machanic told me i need free play,,,

Going into a forward gear before reverse (straight cut) is normal. Going into a forward gear before going into first is not normal.

Where is the point of engagement right now? If it's close to the floor, chances are the cable adjustment is not the issue.

id say its just below half way....( just under the brake pedal)

thats what i was fearing, i don think its the cable, im worried about the NOTCHY gear changes>>>
