My mustang got its first scratch on the hood today when a rock shot up from someones tire. Now I can't stop thinking about the scratch everytime I look at my car. Has anyone found a good product to cover up a scratch that actually works?

Interesting site. I'd probably go this route if it were me, as the cost of touch up paint through this site is roughly the same as what my dealer charged me for Ford paint. It's been my experience that Ford touch-up paint poorly matches at least as far as the metallic reds are concerned.

I ordered a Pen touch up kit just in case, I'll let you know when I get it if it the color match is good.

when did you buy the car? if you bought just recently, take it back to the dealer and see if they can fix it. same scenario happened to me just last week with big truck. dealer did something(free of charge) and the scratch was removed and hood looks great. maybe they took some mild rubbing compound and or buffed it out. don't know for sure though.

There are some products out there, some made by McGuiars (spelling??) that will take out minor scratches. Might be worth a try.

Mine's a large rock chip and I am going to figure out how to fill it in soon without a new paint job.

Try some Kit Scratch Out ...comes in a Yellow Bottle...then follow it up with Mequiar's #2 polish (Dark Red Bottle) and finally with your choice of wax...

BTW, the Kit Scratch Out is clear coat safe...use a damp cloth while using it. It may not remove it completely but it will definitely make it less noticeable...expect to spend a good 15-20 minutes on it (at least)...don't give up.

Before you go buy paint, you need to look at the damage.

is it a scratch or a chip. can you see the primer?

If it's a scratch, try a remover first. Scratch X by Meguiar's is great (when sed properly). Run the back of your fingernail over it. If you can noticably feel the scratch with your fingernail, you won't be able to remove it with scratch remover, but it can reduce the appearance
