I'm still bone stock, 800 miles on the odometer. Did a few spirited runs this weekend.

Wow.

I have the 3.55 rear end and this thing pulls to top speed without even hinting at running out of legs.

Putting it over into 5th gear I expected some noticeable slowing but it ate up the remaining mph too the limiter in a few seconds.

Feels like the car could easily hit 170 with a tuner. I know that 5th gear red lined is only 167 with the 3.55 but I wouldn't be surprised if 6th could pull a little further.

Anyway, I'm going to order a Pbox (10hz gps receiver) and do some data logging before and after tune/intake and see what those mods really mean as far as "area under the curve".

Loving this V8!

Hummmm, I find that interesting. I got my '12 GT/CS 3 weeks ago. As far as I know, did a lot of research on this, there is no 3.55 ( or 3.73 for that matter) option ava from the factory when ordering the GT/CS. It only comes with 3.31's. Did you change out the gears???

The standard rear end for all GTs I believe is 3.31, you however have the option of getting the 3.55 or 3.73 for an additional $395, on Ford's website you can build your car, after selecting the CS (402A) in the exterior options you can select either 3.55 or 3.73.

The 3.31 will do well on the highway as well though. Both the 3.31 and 3.55 will outrun the 3.73 at high speeds.

I don't understand. Im looking to purchase a 2011 C/S and it has 3:15 rear gears.

I have been told with the auto, you can only get that for the rear gear? But also, wtf, 3:15 though is that even right, I also thought 3:31 was the tallest gearset offered from ford for the new GTs?

2011/2012 Auto's come with 3.15:1 as the only option from the factory. With the Manual's you can go with 3.31:1 (stock), 3.55:1, or 3.73:1. This applies to all GT's not just the California Special. If you want anything other than 3.15:1 in an auto then you will have to swap it after it is delivered.

Bear in mind that the gear ratio's for the auto. are a little different than the manual. It's not as "slow" as it sounds having the 3:15's in the auto.

My '11 GT/Auto (bone stock) ran a 12.8 @110 in the 1/4, with plenty of wheel-spin in first and second. I would not call that "slow".

Yeah with auto is just 3.15.

However, I'd have to look at the gear ratios but I'm pretty certain that the worst high speed option is the 3.73.

With the 3.73 you run out of 5th around 145ish and that's basically game over.

Not sure what the cost would be, but that would be a good combo.

The auto gears with the 3.73 would let you run strong up to 174, however 1st gear is going to be a granny gear!

i just looked up the price for 3.73 gears on american muscle and they're 149.99. granny gear as in being slow? you dont happen to have an estimate on how much it usually is to put gears in?

I'm not sure on what the install price would be.

Granny gear means a really low first gear that is basically used just to get something rolling or keep it rolling up a steep hill.

The total MA on the auto in 1st gear with 3.73 is 15.55, traction could be a little scarce.

Nice choice, after seeing a black CS I knew that is what I wanted

Getting back to my orig post after your opening. (Been on a m/c trip). We are both correct. I failed to mention that my '12 GT/CS is a vert and only comes with 3.31's with no option for 3.55 or 3.73. I won't be changing gears for several reasons, the main one is the nightmare when having 3.73 installed in my '08 GT500. Needed to be done 3x's by dealer's best "Shelby" man. First 2x's they whined so loud I couldn't hear the radio. Third time was just ok with a little whine. Apparently installing gears is a lost art and must be done by an expert=lots of experience. Especially with over 500 ft/lbs of torque. Then 1st was totally usless for anything other than melting the Goodyear Stones. 3.55's would have been my first choice but 3.31's are just fine.
