Well, there are no tracks anywhere near my home. However, there are two in my original hometown, so I try to take my car up when we visit family. We planned for that this weekend and had a couple of grudge races setup with friends for the local test-n-tune night on Friday night. Everyone showed up, paid to get in, and then the rainstorm came. So they called off the night, then I found out they don't even open their doors on Saturdays.

So I call the next closest track, about 40 miles away. They have bracket racing on Saturdays, and the guy told me I could buy a footbraking ticket and just run during time trials. So off we go Saturday night. Made 4 runs during time trials. My main goal was to dial in my new adjustable shocks and struts and just see how fast I could go. I managed a 8.41 with a 1.94 60ft, which is not great, but a new best time. So I was happy. Then I thought, I paid to be here, why not run the brackets?

My 4 times ranged from 8.41-8.52, so I dialed in a 8.48, not really knowing what I was doing. Came time to race and I was next to a guy with a 6.70 dial in. Lights come down, I cut a .616, which I thought was great for me, and crossed the finish line with a 8.52. The other guy ran a 6.75 on a 6.70, but cut a .530 light. His margin if victory was .075079.

So all in all, I drove 120 miles one way to run some times, got to participate in an actual race, and came pretty close to winning (at least in my mind). I had a great time, and each time I go to the track, I always remember why I like piddling around with these cars. I know this was a long post, but I just wanted to share my experience.

Here is my quickest pass video, the camera died before the race actually started. It did rain on the track earlier, and they dried it, but no prep. It was very slick and traction was the worst I've experienced with my drag radials.

Its all good fun. I brought home a 2nd place trophy after my first time at the track in highschool. Definitely have to nail the RTs to be competitive though.

I don't know, it was kinda fun. I have always thought of bracket racing as not the ideal way to race, mainly because it wasn't about having the faster car. But its kinda a cool way to be competative when you don't have a $50,000 car.

Lol, when you said 8.22 on one kit, for a split second I thought you were talkin 1/8th mile. I felt good for running my 8.41, then I clicked back to reality when I saw 145mph....and I remembered that I am still sloooowww.

Hey SRTTHIS, I know the video isn't that great, but what did you think about the suspension reacting in that video. I'm trying to dial it in right now. Anything 3500ish rpm wise, and above just spun the tires all the way through 1st. I think the track had something to do with it, but still wondering about my setup.

I remember the first mustang I had was a 90 GT with AOD tranny. The car was completely stock even had the factory exhaust and paper air cleaner. It wouldnt even spin a tire so no need for a burnout. It ran slow like 9.10-9.15 everytime. I finally got to where i was cutting a good light .504-508 and won quite a few times. But man it use to piss off my buds with real drag cars lol but it was all in fun anyway

doesn't look to bad there... That wire is kinda in the way though. Do you have a video of you trying to launch higher? And how it set up now?

Its primarily a street car, so I know the suspension isn't ideal for dragracing, but its getting more that way as I go. I'm running coilovers up front with 175lb springs and Strange Adjustables set at the 3 setting. No sway bar. Rears are Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs with the Strange Adjustables. They seemed to like the 6 setting best. Car is a 5 spd, weighs just a touch over 3400 with me in it (I'm 260lbs). I was running 555R's with 16lbs of pressure in this run, 2nd gear burnout, leaving 4000 rpms or so. I cut a 2.00 60ft and ran a 8.42, which was close to my 8.41 that I ran before with the 1.94 60ft. The difference is I didn't lift between shifts in this video.

Thanks. I know they aren't the most popular, but I was able to swap over my tires from my pony wheels when I did my disc conversion. Also, I got them from a guy who boxed them up in 2000 and put them in his attic....for a $100! I sold my ponies for $150. Can't beat that.
