Practice. The fastest I got my 03 GT 5 speed to go was 13.99 completly stock, but it took a few months of 14.3's, 14.2's, 14.1's and then 14.0's to get it. Started going to the track in September, and hit my 13.99 in December. I was determined to hit the 13's before doing any mods. After that, I put on an o/r X and ran consitent 13.9's. Wednesday I'll see what the magnapacks gave me, if anything.

its a start...get that reaction time down closer to .5 sec

thats pretty hard for a new racer to nail down a .5XX R/T........aim closer to .7 for now, when that gets consistant then aim for a .5...........hell ive been racing for about a year now and i still cant hit a .5 every time

what kind of tire on the rear? if radials, just clean off , don't do a big burnout, and leave at a low rpm, if drag radials, do about a 5-8 sec burnout in 2nd.
60 ft times amke all the difference.
Don't worry about the reation times right now. You can sit there for a 10 sec and your time will be the same, practice the launch.

ive been told that on street radials you should burn em till they jsut start to smoke a bit, then stop, lower tire preasure to like 30psi and leave at like 2000rpm

i have seen a few different things work on street tires.

most of the guys i run with do a 1st gear burnout and let them smoke for a few seconds. Just some guy on here is one of them. he usually cuts mid 1.9s to 2.0 on the stock gatorbacks. i have another friend that does the same on kdw's and nets the same results. I would cut 2.0s in my vert with sumitomos(suck) doing a light burnout as opposed to 2.2's with just a dust off spin.

and if you want to cut good 60's on street tires you are going to have to launch higher than 2k rpms

Congratulations on your first time down the 1320. It is a load of fun. I'm jealous because our local track is closed for the season. It just takes a combination of launching, and shifting at the right rpm's. Are you leaving the line at idle or at a certain rpm. And what rpm are you shifting at. I'm still learning to drive my car. The street and the drag strip are completely different when it comes to racing. And don't worry about your reaction time. The timer doesn't start until your front tire breaks the first beam. Have fun and be careful when you go again.

14.5 is a good start for your first time at teh track.

my first time at teh track with my 02 gt I got 15.9, 14.8 and 14.8....I had just gotten the car a month before and I had never driven stick so I was still learning. It's all about practice.

Focus on getting those 60fts down and you'll be fine.

what are you leaving the line at and what are you shifting at
plus what is the alt. of your track what were the weather conditions (temp, humid, barom.)

you cant tell how your doing without these things because a high alt. track on a hot and humid day is going to show a low mph cause the d/a is high causing the car to be down on power

all I do is launch at 2 and cut 2.0 all the time with a 1.9 every now and then
all I do is a slight spin just to clean them off

on a side note lower the tires to about 30psi dont go much lower cause it will give a bad contact patch just like if it was to high(remember what works for d/r and slicks is not the same with everyday street tires)

I ran a 13.5@103 with a d/a of over 1400 ft above sea level now (that corrected to a 13.3 at sea level and with fl known for having d/a in the -sea level in the winter im sure I could hit a 13.1-13.2 @ 105

but to each his own

i dunno bout launching much higher than 2k on street tires.

but what about this, when im goin down the track, if i powershift into second i will literally throw the car sideways, no matter how much traction i had to begin with, i start spinning hard, i was on my way to a low 8 in the 1/8th (.564 R/t, 1.899 60ft) till that happened, and since then its happened every time ive run, but thats since i started powershifting

you mean a low 9? because i'm sure im putting more power down than you and cutting more than a tenth better 60' and i run in the 8.3s for the 1/8. I dont think i have ever not spun power shifting into 2nd at the track on street tires.

launch at ~2500 RPM
shift at ~5500 RPM
the track is about 1000 ft above sea level
temperature was about 60-65 degrees

Slapyo - your times aren't to bad actually....for your first time....

What I would do is tach it up to 3500 and slip the clutch and maybe get a chirp on the tires and I was off....got consistent 2.1's on street tires and then just hit those gears fast and I could pull very high 13's and low 14's stock....

with out knowing the humid. and baro I will have to guess and say that corrected your run would be somewhere close to a 14.3
