Fix my motor or buy a new one? What would you do?

Some of you might remember my thread about the un-timely demise of my DSS 308. Basically it needs a new crank and all the bearings. Not sure what caused it, but I tend to think it was some sort of oil pressure issue. I can buy a crank kit and rings for around $400, plus all the misc stuff. Or I can buy a new, somewhat better short block (stock block) for around $2000. Ideally if I was buying a new motor I'd get a Dart, but I can't swing it right now. Should I rebuild this motor and just save for something better down the road? Would it be stupid to spend a bunch of money on another stock block motor? I was going to re-use my heads, cam ,intake, rockers, etc. Sorry for the length....
