I had my stock fuel rail burst and spray gas all over my distributor, it went poof and ruined anything and everything melt-able on the top of engine along with destroyed the hood....and now that I have gotten valve covers, upper/lower intake back from paint, I am finally starting to assemble stuff back together.
So I have replaced my engine harness and fuel injector harness, added a new radiator and electric fan...among a few other things that needed to be done anyhow that had nothing to do with the fire.
I have a few questions dealing with getting this started.
What I want to do is simply get the car running and drive-able again. I'd like to remove any and all things/aspects that are unnecessary.
The EGR is/will be bypassed once I purchase a delete plate and new spacer for my 70mm BBk TB. Currently I have a GT40 intake w/o the EGR so it doesn't even work.
(If anyone happens to have a 70mm TB spacer for a BBK and or a EGR delete plate, let me know)
Also, I have no smog or AC for reference.
Below are some pictures that deal with the following questions. I'd prefer to keep out the "opinion" of what works better and what is needed and such. I need straight fact of what is needed for operation. For exmaple, some people thing the EGR is 100% needed, which isn't correct. Many people delete it and it works...that is the kind of information I need to know. My car has been sitting for over a month and I just need it back on the road.
The first two pictures go with this question: What are the connections attached to the strut pillar on passenger side? What are they? Are they important? The one piece on top had some sort of cap but that was ruined in the fire.
Carbon canister...I have read and been told this is for filtering fumes from gas tank and then they are put into motor via vacuum line. First off, mine didn't have both lines on the canister, only one....so it wasn't working to begin with. A way to fix this would be to remove it all together and put a breather cap on the gas tank....is this correct?
What vacuum lines are needed for operation?
-fuel reg
-vacuum tree-which go where? Is there a diagram for this?
-PCV valve
-One vac line for HVAC into firewall?
-----is that the one line in the top center of firewall?
Is that all needed for operation?
Next deals with electric fan and new radiator.
I bought a new/upgraded radiator from AM and a electric fan from LatemodleResto.
The electric fan and radiator went is without much issue. But then there is the coolant overflow tank.
The stock one was a bit melted and old, so I tossed it. The electric fan came with a bracket for the overflow tank but it isn't intuitive to use in the slightest. So What are my options? Is the overflow needed? I would imagine so for a DD, but I could also seeing it not needed if the motor and coolant system was bubbled/burped correctly. Looking for suggestions/options here. I'm sure someone on here has used this fan or a similar one. Also, if you have, how did the thermo work on it? I've seen good reviews, but I'm considering just running a switch.
The last question, which unfortunately doesn't have an accompanying picture, deals with fuel lines.
I purchase and have installed the BBK fuel rails, along with the braided steel fuel lines that will run down the front of the motor. They came with adapters and all.
The issue is that I was dumb and impatient taking off the old connectors to the front fuel rail. So I currently have the metal fuel lines into the engine bay, then the plastic/rubber line going to the motor, but I cut off those connectors, the locking couplings, that would go into the front metal fuel line. So I need the connectors to connect to the braided fuel lines. I'm hoping those are available, if so where can I find them. I haven't looked too much yet, but I am doing that right after I finish posting. Just looking for any and all options that don't involve me putting all new fuel lines in.
That's all for now. Any and all information and advice is welcome and appreciated. Thanks.
