My power steering pump took a crap. I replaced it with a reman one, it leaked. I returned it as a defect and got another one, everything was working good till i broke the return line spout. Long story short i dont feel like replacing pumps. I am thinking of a manual rack. I will have the whole top end of the motor out in a week, should i throw a manual rack in there. I will be running GT40p's with a Ford Racing header, will i have any clearence issues, no AC or smog. How hard is it to install? As i said, i think i have a leak in my rack now too, so im tired of power steering. Is it worth the $450.
Flaming River or constant headache?

i think that the close ration rack would be worth it. That is if it really makes the handling better and gets rid of the loose wheel feel.

I bought a Factory Manual Rack for a 79-81 Mustang from Advanced Auto for $110.00. Also got new outer tie rod ends for $18.00 a peice. I have been driving it around for 3 years now with no problems. 
You will not have any clearence issues with this setup. The only thing I had to get from Flaming River was the Forged Adapter Flange. Part number Fr-1604. Had to pay $72.00 for it (RIP OFF!!!!) but need it to complete the install. Oh well I like it.

That was basically it. I had to remove the power steering pump, lines, and rack. Just reused the rack bushings. (They were still good) and bought new outter tie rod ends because the old ones were worn.Chetly said:
Oh also had to get a shorter belt to bypass the power steering.
Also had to get an alignment.
